4. From Yahoo: Lawmakers Reject Immediate Iraq Withdrawal
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051119/ap_on_go_co/congress_iraq

WASHINGTON - The Republican-controlled House spurned calls for an immediate pullout of troops from
Iraq in a vote hastily arranged by the GOP that Democrats vociferously denounced as politically motivated.

"To cut and run would invite terrorism into our backyards, and no one wants to see troops fighting terrorism on American soil," Speaker
Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., said Friday night after the House, as planned, rejected a GOP-written resolution for immediate withdrawal.

The vote, held as lawmakers rushed toward a two-week Thanksgiving break, was 403-3.

Jean Schmidt (Repuke-OH) called Murtha a coward, and the House went NUTS. Dems yelling and were literally running to the front to file complaints.

6. ahem--she DIDN'T call him a coward
what she did was IMPLY cowardice, quite clearly, by reading a message that one of her concerned constitutents, a former Marine, gave her to tell Murtha about how "Marines never cut and run." This "concerned constitutent" was an Ohio State repug, who is an active swiftboater and apparently pretty much a MINO with no combat in his service record.

15. well, sorta
but she still didn't actually directly call him a "coward" Look at the transcript. The word "coward" isn't even in there... She implied it though, quite clearly, using a silly rhetorical trick.

12. Reality Check BJW.......

She pulled an O'Reilly, or a Hannity, they call someone a coward and claim they are just reporting what someone else said. This is the oldest trick in the book, it's a way to call someone a coward while claiming you did not say it.

O'Reilly and Hannity use this trick all the time.

I could say Jim Smith said you have sex with dogs, then everyone thinks you have sex with dogs and if I take heat for it I can say I was just reporting what Jim Smith said.

Wake up BJW, Jean Schmidt is a piece of shit who called Murtha a coward, and she did not even have the guts to take the credit for it. She had to use the words of someone else to do it, she is the lowest form of life on earth.

She DID NOT use the word "coward" at all. Check the transcript if you don't believe me.

But I do agree, she did use a SOP rhetorical trick to impugn Muther's Marine service and motivations. But nowhere is the word "coward" mentioned, at all.

17. I just watched the video and she absolutely did use the word Coward
Here is the direct quote

"He also asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message, that cowards cut and run, Marines never do. Danny and the rest of America and the world want the assurance from this body – that we will see this through."

She wasn't just "implying" that he's a coward. She said it to his face. Why else would she have to have gone and got her words stricken from the record. Chickenhawk bi*ch.

23. Huh ?

Get a hearing aid, she used the word COWARD, she called Congressman Murtha a coward, she used that exact word. And it was right out of the O'Reilly/Hannity Nazi playbook.

A while back O'Reilly said that some military families think Cindy Sheehan is a traitor and that she should be put on trial for treason.

Yet he did not name the so-called families who said that, so he basically called her a traitor while claiming he was just reporting what someone else said.

It's the oldest right wing Nazi trick in the book, and it's a common practice of many Republicans.

11. No, no, no, no
The repubs have their backs to the wall--resorting to despicable dirty tricks. The issue of a withdrawal from Iraq--and the lack of *any* plan or leadership--has been forced to the forefront. The supporters of this war and this administrations are doing everything they can to divert attention and obfuscate the facts. Once they have to start answering questions, it's all over. 2006.

The dems sense that the American public has tired of the constant fear-mongering and politics w/out substance that this administration and the republican congress has used to push through their neocon agenda. They're empowered and have the initiative. It's only a matter of time . . .

13. Bogus Resolution Info.......

Murtha spent a year looking at the situation in Iraq, and he was just there 2 months ago. He also talked to US Generals and wounded US troops at walter reed medical center. They all told him there are not enough troops in Iraq to get the job done. So Murtha's point is if Bush does not have enough troops and his plan is to stay the course we should just start a troop re-deployment within the next 6 months or whenever practical.

His resolution DID NOT call for an immediate troop withdrawal as the Republicans have lied about. And his other point is that 80% of the Iraq people do not want US troops in Iraq. And 45% of the Iraqi people support killing US troops, so why are we there ?

The final vote on that sham Republican resolution that was non-binding was 403 to 3 with 5 Democrats voting present. The Republicans knew this sham vote would lose, yet they wasted taxpayer money to have the bogus debate where each member of the house got an average of 8 seconds to speak. This is the worst political scam/trick I have ever seen in my life, and I am 45 years old. That sham vote trick is why people hate politics, especially Republicans.

The Republicans pulled a scam on the American people who did not follow it in detail to know exactly what happened. Murtha wrote a well thought out detailed resolution calling for a troop re-deployment within the next 6 months or whenever practical. The Republican leadership in the house (Duncan Hunter and others) refused to bring that resolution to the floor for a vote. There was no vote on John Murtha's resolution, ever. Then the Republicans write their own resolution calling for an immediate troop withdrawal. Then they have this bogus debate on a resolution they know will fail 403 to 3, and each member is only allowed 8 seconds to debate a bogus non-binding resolution they already know will not pass.

It was a political stunt and a massive waste of time and taxpayer money. This is the bullshit Republicans do when they are in power, and this is why they should all be voted out of office asap.

Hell the House Republicans held a debate and a vote on a Republican resolution then all 215 Republicans voted NO on their own resolution. It was clearly just a political stunt, anyone who says different is a liar.
