UPDATE: Vidof Ford(or somebody)charging across the floor has been FOUND
Edited on Sat Nov-19-05 11:29 AM by wndycty
ON MOTHER F'ING EDIT (Can you tell I'm pumped?): I found it!

http://www.canofun.com/blog/videos/schmidtrepublicanstuntnov1805.wmv

At 1:30 you see someone darting across the bottom of the screen and hear the Speaker admonishing "The Gentleman from Tennessee will return to his seat." Then he admonishes "The Gentleman from Mass."

I have to see this. I know Harold is not popular on the DU but I have always been a fan.

-snip-
Ms. Schmidt withdrew her words, but not before Rep. Harold E. Ford Jr., Tennessee Democrat, seemed to be headed for a fight with Rep. Tom Tancredo, Colorado Republican. Mr. Tancredo afterward said he had been arguing with another Democrat over some of the charges Democrats had hurled at Republicans during yesterday morning's budget vote, and said Mr. Ford must have thought the argument was about Mr. Murtha.

"Say it to Murtha," Mr. Ford repeatedly shouted at Mr. Tancredo while he was being restrained by other members. Mr. Tancredo said he replied he wasn't talking about Mr. Murtha and told Mr. Ford to go sit down.

1. Tancredo was the one who wanted to "bomb mecca"
he said it on a radio show last year I think. A real wingnut. Yesterday he said "she can say what she wants" and thats when Ford charged him.

4. I bet if Ford had laid the beat down on ole Tom. . .
. . .he would have gone from one of the most hated Democrats on the DU to a hero and the donations would have flowed.

15. No DLCer will get a dime of mine.
Of course with their corporate backers they don't need money from us anyway.

18. Glad you're not in Tennessee, then.
Because he's the only Democrat who can beat the likes of Van Hilleary, Ed Bryant or Bob Corker.

I'm going to work for him and vote for him. A Democratic Congress will force many DLCers (and Harold's on the economic cusp, only) to tow the Dem line.

3. I'm going to a Women for Ford meeting on Sunday.
I happen to think he's the only Democrat - outside of our governor - who could win a statewide election.

No, he's not the most popular on DU, but he HAS taken some strong stances against Bush of late. I believe he realizes that being accommodating to the Republicans has hurt this country and is working to correct that.

Oh - and I'd love to see pictures of him charging across the aisle, too. I'd print it out and get him to sign it when I see him Sunday. :7

6. The thing most DUers don't get about Ford is. . .
. . .that he is in Tennessee, he has to be very moderate almost conservative on certain issues (national security being one of them) to have a shot at winning in TN. I'm a big fan, sure I wish he was more to the left, however we need him to get elected.

8. As a Tennessean, I'm in complete agreement.
We have a LOT of military in this state (thus, why it's called The Volunteer State) and national security/foreign policy are big issues here.

Ford is very liberal on education and civil rights and only slightly conservative regarding abortion (is pro-choice, but with certain restrictions, which is consistant with his constituents). In fact, about the only thing he's really conservative on is the economy, which is another Tennessee trait.

He's been pulling away, however, from the corporists and leaning more toward the Mom & Pops lately, too. The DLC probably will end up kicking him out, soon. LOL!

5. Can one write to a representative encouraging them
to follow through on a headlong dash to head butt an opponent?
It might violate Roberts Rules of Order but then again Tancredo
violates standard requirements for occupying space.

7. And he's hot as hell! I'm back on board with Edwards/Ford, LOL!
That's pretty strong behavior from Harry Ford, if that's true. He seems so mild mannered and reasonable. He had to be *very* angry to do that.

I'd like to get a look at that as well, it's almost unbelievable.

Ahhh. Way back in the day I had hoped it would be Gore/Edwards for 8 years, Edwards/Ford for 8, and Ford as our first black president. Sigh.

11. Oh, I plan to get the low-down on this Sunday!
Ford is normally very congenial and full of decorum.

This is so very unusual of him - but it's nice to see the bull come out of this Taurus boy. ;)

Oh - and I'd rather see a Clark/Ford ticket. Arkansas and Tennessee seem to make a pretty hot ticket. :7

14. Clark/Ford I could get with too.
And it would be a nonsensically good looking ticket, at that (so would Obama/Ford, Edwards/Ford...there's a lot of good looking Dems :) )!

"Back in the day" for me, was sometime in 2000, before Clark came along, when everything was nice, we had Twin Towers, gas less than $1.50/gallon.... sigh. :nopity:

13. That would be awesome!
And a great non-official slogan.

Having a sign that said "Brothers gonna work it out" would rock!

17. I'd like it, but I'm afraid it wouldn't win.
We've gone so backwards in this country, that it will be a long damn time until we see a woman or a black person heading a ticket that could win... :(

20. Harold Ford - bring them home June 2005 article

Rep. Harold E. Ford Jr. (D-Tenn.) is airing a Senate campaign ad urging President Bush to bring troops home from Iraq.

22. OMG he just needs to marry me.
I don't care if he is more conservative and calculating than I'd like him to be.

He's so adorable and so not married and so my age. :silly:
Sorry guys, I brought my Lounge brain into GD.

Ahem.

It is so effective when these hawkish Dems come out for bringing the troops home...I have to wonder if that was their plan from the beginning. It'd be a crappy plan, but as I said, it is certainly effective and packs a lot of punch today.

Where are you at, tjdee? I have a hot invitation to join him for lunch (with a bunch of other women) tomorrow if you'd like to attend. :7
