1. looks like we have an -er- bipartisan vote
Dems took the bait. I hope the press doesn't egg on what's coming next.

2. Yes, that would have been dramatic, but I'm glad they stayed and
had their say.

3. I'm not sure...
Walking out might have made more of a statement & gotten better press. I'm sick of the minority getting bulldozed by the the majority on major issues. The bastards bend and suspend the rules at will and with impunity to get what they want. This is their solution to gridlock. Remember gridlock, a.k.a. checks and balances?

The next time an objectionable and major spending bill or something of the like comes up for a vote, and there's no chance to defeat it -- I'd like to see every Democrat opposed to the legislation walk out holding his/her nose; ...and see a spate of press conferences afterward.

4. That's my feeling too.
It would have made the same statement, even much more so. And those who think we wouldn't have the debate after that, all I got to say is

Now come hell or high water, nothing can change the fact that there will be an official vote in the congressional record of no--by democrats--to shut down the war.

Most Americans don't play chess. But somebody better be around every time someone talks about this vote to explain it now how this was chess. Because we have certainly taken that gamble. And the pieces are on the board.

6. And Pass Up On The Open Mikes???
Think this kind of debate could have occured even three months ago? Think DeLay would have allowed this show to have taken place? Murtha would have been Swift boated and there'd be no place for him or anyone else to respond.

Last night was the first of many debates the Repugnicans are being forced to have. They don't want to discuss this war...they want it to go away. Now we've got them ON RECORD as to what they think about this war, their leadership and where it is or should go. This is great cannon fodder if Democrats are smart enough to pick up on it. Sure looks like Paul Hackett already is.

I'm not only glad the Democrats stayed to fight on this one...but was proud how unified they were throughout. If you can't see the benefits of what happened last night, take a second look.

8. I wonder why they didn't go for the walk out?
Of course they got their point across loud and clear.
