Why the Murtha probe is bullshit
Edited on Fri Nov-18-05 09:33 PM by Midnight Rambler
I can already see the arguments coming from the right, that Dems are hypocrites, that they're investigating Tom DeLay for "partisan" reasons and cry foul when one of their boys gets targeted. But here's the thing: the DeLay investigation was not sparked by anything in particular he said. It was a long time coming, the result of years of corruption and naked partisanship, and mountains of evidence of shady activities by his associates. But Murtha offers a dissenting opinion, and boom, they launch an investigation. It's a direct response to his resolution, and they're not even trying to hide it. If Murtha had been enduring a long series of scandals, then maybe I'll buy their bullshit. Until then, I think it's clear where the hypocrisy lies.

1. It will backfire and expose this party for what it is.
They are F-ing up at every turn. Unbelievable.

2. Fight fire with fire! Chickenhawks involved in Halliburton; do you
think any connections could be found? I do.

3. Naked political assassination
They're proud of the power that's theirs to abuse. They want to be sure everyone sees them wielding it. Their hubris is off the scale. It's their downfall, and perhaps they know it, though they certainly don't act like it.

4. Kind of counter-intuitive, too.
If Murtha was in the back pocket of the lobbyists, seems he'd be happy to keep the war going on.

6. They're charging that he helped out his brother's lobbying firm
Even if that is true, it's a far cry from illegal corporate contributions, money laundering, gerrymandering an entire state, protecting the overseas sex trade, and basically being associated in any way, shape, or form with people named Abramoff.

7. Thanks.
It seems pretty transparent - Murtha comes out against the war; then the next day the pubs launch a probe. Even if he's doing something wrong here - they already knew it and didn't care.

Goes to show you that they'll tolerate the most mind-boggling corruption as long as you're on their side. They have no values whatsoever apart from greed and power.
