7. Al From is an idiot.

He attacks non-DLC Democrats, weakening the party.

He acts as if the DLC is a shadow DNC, "really" running the party.

Only Democrats (in name, big D) can change that.

The idea of the blue dog Democratic caucus, or a "Democratic Leadership Council", or some other org isn't out of line, it's what the leadership (or lack of) causes.

Al From causes failure, and divisiveness in the party, and should be cast from the DLC.

I can respect the DLC. I've given money to the DLC (which I asked for back, but never got), and have a close friend there.

I don't agree with the DLC on central issues. I am NOT a free trader.

But because of Al From, I don't respect the DLC.

10. I agree with Thom Hartmann

that the neo-cons are inflitrating the Democratic Party via the DLC. They are largely financed by the same corporations that finance the Republicans, only to a lesser degree. A review of their voting record shows they vote more like Republicans than Democrats.

12. I remember reading

an article dealing with the DLC and two conservatives were working at the group. :shrug: I also remember reading when Bush came to town they were so right wing a lot of the moderates left the party and are now calling themselves democrats. They still believe in republican ideals and stuff but the republican party is now just neocons or fundies and they didn't fit in.

14. Since the neocons have taken over the Republican party, I can see

the DLC Dems becoming basically a new Republican party -- or should I say the OLD one - a return to embracing traditional conservative values. But where does that leave people like me? I am not a "moderate" liberal, if there is such a thing.

The DLC Dems do not represent me. I want a true liberal party - a party for the people. A party that supports unions & labor, a party that believes corporations should be held accountable to the communities they do business in & pay their fair share of taxes: a party that realizes "trickle down economics" for what it is: a ploy to make the rich richer; a party that will stand up & fight for health care for all; a party that does not believe in pre-emptive war; a party that believes in a woman's right to choose; a party that does not discriminate against gay people who want to marry; & the list goes on & on. These are not issues I'm willing to compromise on.

In an earlier post today someone was asking if the Dems were likely to take over the house or senate in '06. I think there's a good chance they can & if the neocons continue on the path they are on, they have a shot at the White House in '08, But my question is: even with the White House & Congress, will the Dems reverse any of the AWFUL legislation that has been passed over the past 5 years?

I have very little faith in the Democratic party as it is today. My hope is in Howard Dean & the PDA. I support them as much as I can afford to.

13. One thing I personally

love about the democratic party is we are such a big tent. As Howard Dean said when he was elected DNC chairman: we're the people's party. There are so many different type of democrats from conservarive to liberal and we all should belong in the group and things like that. We're not like the republicans and have two choices: neocon or fundie. I of course think we should be more progressive as a party but we shouldn't kick anyone out either. So when it concerns the DLC I go by canidate and their personal record.

We can't totally trash them, they did bring us the crux Bill Clinton's policies, but since then they've only marginalized themselves by continually producing losing strategies and unpopular policies. Al From's time has come and gone.
