Gene Taylor (D-Miss) for VP !!! (?)
I recently turned on CSpan and caught the speech on budget cuts, and was struck by how well Gene Taylor presented the essential truths of what is going on. Very articulate and plain-spoken, and very passionate about the simple immorality and lack of basic decency on the other side. Leather jacket instead another suit, rugged good looks, good stage presence, no speech impediment and no strong regional accent, spoke with conviction "as one us" who are bing hurt, rather than from the elite do-gooder's view of us as the unfortunate masses.

If anyone could copy the video and post it, that would allow others to see him in action. It is great short video snip that deserves broader circulation.

Anyone know more about him? Perhaps there is less there than I saw, but he struck me as being one part of the kind of campaign that will be needed to take our country back from corporatism.

(My ideal ticket at this stage of my understanding would be Clark-Taylor, which ought to garner a few bonus votes from areas where first and last names are expected to be interchangeable.)

Co-sponsoring the marriage amendment with that dreadful Re. Musgrave of Colorado.

3. Cosponsor of federal Marriage amendment, Clinton impeachment voter
Edited on Thu Nov-17-05 11:16 PM by Bluebear
Dead to me, politically.
=======================
Please know that I share your disappointment in the fact that the Federal Marriage Amendment did not earn enough votes. My support of the Federal Marriage Amendment is a deeply held personal and moral position. It is far above petty partisan politics for me, and I hope that was the case for other supporters of the amendment.

I have contacted Representative Musgrave’s office and have been informed that she will reintroduce the amendment during the 109th Congress. I have agreed to serve as an original cosponsor of the Federal Marriage Amendment.

If you are a resident of the State of Mississippi, you probably already know that, on November 2, 2004, 86 percent of Mississippians voted in favor of an amendment to the State Constitution that defines marriage as valid only when between a man and a woman. The same amendment also outlaws marriages between persons of the same gender performed in other states or countries. The passage of this amendment clearly defines the opinions of Mississippians regarding the issue of same-sex marriage. I voted for it as a congressman in Washington, DC and as a citizen in Bay St. Louis.

You can be assured that I will continue to support the traditional definition of marriage as the law of the land as long as I have the privilege of serving as the Congressman from the Fourth District of Mississippi.

10. Well, that is too bad. At best it is pandering to bigotry
Those are the words of a man I would never support for national office. Too bad, indeed.

He is photogenic, ex-military, Southern, on the surface a good pick, but a dismal voting record, unfortunately!

20. And even being a conservative he is this day a

A Democrat! He has been courted more than a few times to jump to the GOP and has turned them down flat everytime. I would love to see him run for the Senate he is much better than any Republican that will get the primary win in Mississippi and is probably the best candidate we can run and win with in Mississippi. In the senate he (as now in the house) will be like every other person who is not me, I will agree with him on somethings and disagree with him on somethings. But I bet if he runs I would agree with him on more than I do with Trent Lott or some other Mississippi Republican.

28. These are pretty much the same reasons that I keep having to use
To explain to people my unconditional support of Senator Landrieu. Like Gene Taylor, I don't agree with her 100% of the time, more like I agree with her 90% of the time...but she's a damn sight better than any Repuke alternative.

Gene Taylor could take Trent Lott or Thad Cochran out, he's wasted in the House, we need to encourage him to run for the Senate.

Of course, he was born in Baton Rouge you know.

As pointed out, he is probably the only (D) that could win that district. I could never support him for higher office, though.

We'll let him stay in the House then. I'm getting sleepy and my brain is shutting down...well, my brain is shutting down more than it's normally shut down during daylight hours.

So Taylor stays in the House.

23. Exactly what I was going to say
He's not a tree-hugging gay pro-choice activist, but he is the best Dem you will get elected in his district. Getting ANY Dem elected there is a minor miracle, seems to me.

If you want someone more liberal from that area you need to change the views of the people who live there. For now, just be happy he counts towards our total number of seats, and hope he gets re-elected in 2006.

26. "the art of the possible"
Politics. Is there any sign that he is trying to lead people away from bigotry and ignorance? Or is he just a skilled politico saying what people want to hear? Or is he just a product of his environment and does not even question the "rightness" of those positions?
