National Review: "If tough, non-effete guys like Murtha are willing to go
Edited on Thu Nov-17-05 01:25 PM by understandinglife
... this far, and can make the case in ways that Red America can relate to … then the president is in big trouble. I’m sure there’s going to be an anti-Murtha pile-on in the conservative blogosphere, but from where I sit, conservatives would be fools not to take this man seriously.”

http://thinkprogress.org/2005/11/17/national-reviews-rod-dreher-on-murtha/#comments

Rob Dreher's comment, quoted above, says it all.

And, Rep Murtha severely undercuts exactly what Josh Marshall was noting is the attempt by the White House to have something the few remaining members of their chorus can chant:

There's one point that's important to remember about the White House's pushback to cover up its collective dishonesty about Iraq. We've noted before that in scandals or political nominations the decisive issue is not the number of opponents, the intensity of their opposition or even the quality of their arguments. The decisive issue is most often whether the scandalee or the nominee has some committed base of support, even if it only amounts to a distinct minority.

<clip>

I don't say this as a counsel of pessimism or futility. It's just important to understand, to know what they're trying to achieve. The good news is that most Americans have already figured this out. Clear majorities of the public now believe this president misled them about Iraq. And they'll certainly grow. The key is to press these on the specifics, why they said these things they knew weren't true.

2. non-effette guys?
Like the guy who faced down the Nevada mob, despite having his family nearly car-bombed? Or the guys who actually served in a war zone? Or the snot nosed kid who went up against the biggest insuance industries in the country? THOSE effette guys?

I swear to god, how can we blame Red America for believing idiotic shit about Democrats when we're the ones putting it out there.

I don't really consider Rob Dreher as being a spokesperson for Democrats. My post is to indicate that "Red America" will take Murtha's comments way more seriously than those from almost any other Democrat and that that is very bad news for Bush and the neoconsters.

Peace.

4. It's your post
You put the words in it. You could have chosen anything else in the world except the reinforcing word "effette".

5. Sorry, but it is a direct quote of something that needs to be seen ...
... and dealt with. That is exactly why I coupled it with Josh Marshall's advice to all.

Dealing with it doesn't mean attacking the messenger. Write Rob, in other words.

Peace.

6. They'll just call him a tree-hugging pansy
They don't give a shit about truth, and their followers are too stupid to not fall for it.
