Speculation: Could Woodword had been what Karl traded at the

1. In a clever way, yes
He didn't directly link Woodward. He gave Fitz the source who DID link Woodward in order to save his own buns.

3. That's an interesting guess
But I'm still unclear on how Woodward's revelation affects anything having to do with Fitzgerald's investigation, unless it points - somehow - to an even greater White House involvement in the Plame outing.

So far, the spin put out by Libby's lawyers has been roundly trounced by KeithOlbermann, bless his heart, who pointed out that they pointedly neglected to include the whole of Fitzgerald's line about "known" government officials.

It's a theory you've got there, though, but something tells me there's another plot line at work here.

4. Maybe not...many say that Woodward's source was Hadley.
Fitz may have had Hadley on the griddle, so Hadley (our National Security Advisor!) decided he'd better cop to telling Woodward and also free Woodward to confirm it. Otherwise Stevie maybe gets a perjury indictment. Maybe he'll still get a perjury indictment. Ahhhh. Pass the popcorn.

5. I just posted that on another DU thread.
I recall stories of Fitz meeting with Shrub's personal atty the AM of the day he filed the Libby indictment. He also has had quite a few meetings with Rove's atty's. I'm thinking Woodward was a trade for someone's personal benefit.
