How Democrats Play Into Media Narratives, Part 2

We've written about the propensity of some Democrats to echo fictional narratives about Bush and to play into obvious media traps: "You might ask yourself why a senior Democratic strategist would repeat a fictional narrative designed to bolster Bush's image. One answer is that many establishment Democrats - amazingly - don't understand the centrality of Pre$$titute-driven storylines when it comes to shaping favorable impressions of Bush. If they did, they wouldn't glibly parrot those storylines."

A good example of this strategic ineptitude is an appearance on MSNBC during the 10 am EST hour by the DNC's Susan Turnbull. Anchor Randy Meier opens the interview by slamming Democrats for (paraphrasing) "constantly changing positions on Iraq." Meier then spits out the usual GOP lies, and unwittingly throws Turnbull a softball: "If you can sum up the White House position on Iraq as 'stay the course' is there a simple way to sum up the Democratic position?"

The glaringly obvious answer is this: "Yes, the Democratic position is 'change the course.' Instead, Turnbull rambles on with an incoherent answer that reinforces the media narrative of bumbling and muddled Democrats. When will they ever learn...
