BBV-Alert-Your Representatives & Senators May Be Misinformed
I just got off the phone with one of our state representatives who was very, VERY misinformed about voter verified paper ballots. They had been talking to a lot of people and got the idea, and I learned they had talked to VoteHere, by the way, that there was no way to insure the paper ballot would have the correct vote on it.

What?

Somehow, they apparently didn't realize just what was meant by a voter verified paper ballot or HR 2239, Holt's amendment.

They had developed the idea that the paper vote wasn't confirmed by the voter.

This person didn't like the VoteHere method, either, butwere way out of the ball park on voter verified paper ballots. I gotta wonder if they had help on that misinterpretation?

If you have a Representative who has not signed on to Holt's legislation, I suggest you call and find out WHY. If they've got the wrong idea, then politely explain it to them. Took me 15 minutes to get through all the misinformation this staff person had been fed. And this was not the person manning the phones, this was the staff assistant that dealt with this particular issue.

Make sure your representatives are on the right track.

Ask them to cosponsor the bill and get it out of committee. It is being purposely blocked, more on that in another post.

1. If anyone gets information, will you forward it please?
With the end of the Congressional session coming up at the end of the month, HR2239 will die in committee if it is not acted upon.

VerifiedVoting.org has written to everyone on our mailing list who indicated they will help, and have asked them to call their representatives. We will post on our site the position (concerning HR2239) of every member of Congress. If they don't want to be included in those who oppose this legislation, this may be the time to turn them. http://www.verifiedvoting.org/houseofreps.asp

If anyone gains information that you wish posted to our site, please send it to contact@verifiedvoting.org

Thanks...

3. I Can See Why VoteHere Would Get People's Ears in Wa. State
Ralph Munro is on their Board of Directors. He is our ex-Secretary of State and held that office for a long, long time. Now his protege, Stan Reed, is the Sec. of State. They are following the industry line to a 'T'.

My county Auditor is speaking on the subject of BBV to the County Democratic Committee next month. She is supposed to present both sides of the issue but I doubt that she will do much for verifiable paper ballots so I am going to help her out, whether she wants it or not. I'll keep it cool and ask some leading questions and see what happens. Should be fun!!

5. This is a very important post
We can't change minds until we listen and diagnose.

I was surprised when Jim McDermott said "Bev, do you realize how conspiratorial that sounds?"

RedEagle attended that meeting, and listened, and ascertained that he thought because there are all those secretaries of state and election directors minding the store, nothing could happen. So she gave him a little heads up on The Election Center and how NASED works.

Here, she LISTENED and realized that the congressman was under some misimpressions, and she took the time to straighten those out.

We can't straighten them out unless we find out what they are first.

Bev

6. And remember what I learned from Kathy Rogers of the
GA Elections Division, bless her black little heart:

Election officials and workers are THRILLED to get rid of the paper. To them, paper = vote fraud because they've spent elections worrying about, caring for, looking for missing ballots. They do not understand the threats involved with computerized voting, but they are all too familiar with the threats involved with paper ballots. They do not understand that computerized voting makes possible election fraud on a scale undreamed of before, but they absolutely do understand the tension, misery, angst and heartache involved with missing paper ballots.

Their understanding of paper-based vote fraud is vivid, real, palpable. They have NO understanding of computerized vote fraud.

We have to help them understand that when electrons go missing (or get mixed up), we're in far more trouble.

9. Michael Moore was handed the Salon.com articles this week
personally by me. He was given the Feb & Sept articles covering this issue, and gave me the impression he hasn't read them before. He knows a little bit on it since he mentioned it on Bill Maher's show. Al Franken was also handed the Salon.com articles by me too recently. They seem to have the spotlight right now as token liberals being given face time on TV due to their books. Let's hope they raise the issue soon.

12. This is Important
You have to find out what your representative's position is on HR2239, and you have to find out why if they are not supporting.

Even if they do, make sure they understand what a voter-verified paper ballot really does.

If they got information from vendors or VoteHere, who knows what they believe at this point.

To see other co-sponsors, go here:

http://thomas.loc.gov/

Type or paste HR 2239 into the bill number search

Then click on "References to this bill in the Congressional Record"
