I think Fitz has played this brilliantly.
He watched, waited, and collected info for 2 years. He surely wasn't in any hurry to indict and waited until the last possible moment. We all speculated he was waiting for someone to rat someone else out.
And it has come to pass, and probably won't stop here!

2. Agree with ya there! Still I hear the crap "Well why would he lie blah
blah fucking blah"

Because the administration had nooooooooooo idea what they were truly facing in Fitzgerald.

5. Right.
Libby lied to the FBI investigators before Fitzgerald took over the case. He was confident Ashcroft had it covered. Surprise, surprise.

They must have felt so secure when giving goofy answers.

Didn't Fitz get another grand jury? If so, this could be one hell of a ride. I'm counting on the gang that couldn't shoot straight!

19. Not They, He. And some would say that is the least likely reason.
Many people believe the lies were done specifically to almost put his ass in the crossfire. Also because at the time they didn't think the investigation was going to go the way it did etc..

8. He is playing chess, they're playing checkers. No match...
...in either intellect (Fitz was an all A math major, after all) and no match in strategy and tactics.

Welcome to the TRUTH fellas. It's all about coming clean, NOW.

As far as I'm concerned Novak, Woodward, and Miller at least have engaged in a conspiracy to out and enable the outing of a top level CIA operative who was working on vital national security interests.

This isn't journalism and it's probably a crime.

Let the chips fall...

12. I agree about his
undergraduate degrees. He was a math and economics major and these are unusual majors for a law degree. I was also an econ major and should have been a math major. I have always thought that the"logic courses" were minor league compared to math. His is absolutly a step ahead of them.

I minored in econ, and it nearly killed me.

I was fine until I tried to tackle "Intermediate Microeconomics", which required calculus.

You've got my admiration! :)

Edited on Wed Nov-16-05 08:28 PM by TwoSparkles
I've been sequestered inside--as my youngest has an ear infection! I've been news-free most of the day!

I'll research more on this, but I'm very interested in your comment about "it has come to pass" in reference to someone 'ratting someone else out.'

Do tell!

18. I meant the worms are all turning simultaneously.
Woodward admitted today a high ranking official leaked Plame's name to him, so who might have leaked that? And where might that lead? Seems there's some ass-saving action going on. :)

22. Woodward's attempting to save his ass...
So, possibly one of these "senior White House officials" said, "Hey...look Bob. I had to tell Fitzy about our conversation. But I told him that you told me about Plame. Sorry about that. No hard feelings?"

I can't wait until we find out what is going on.

Gee, who will write this book? We don't have an ace reporter--saving the day and shining the light of truth on this situation.

I would be happy to see Fitzgerald write a tell-all and make a gazillion dollars.

He deserves it.

31. Well, maybe Josh Marshall can write the book
Or there are several right here on DU who have what it takes. The bloggers have taken over for the print press investigative reporters of old. The book, when it is written, will be an instant classic.

6. Agreed! I'd lay odds it's part of Rove's "cooperation"!
And the great thing is, Rove will NOT get off scott free. Rove might get much, much less but it won't be nothing with Fitzgerald. And in the mean time, there's more to come!

Did he volunteer to testify simply because his source said he could? Was he asked by Fitz?

29. You can bet he got his ass dragged into this "laughable" little
case involuntarily. Unless he's there to plant some disinfo, which I find unlikely. He wouldn't like prison & 'm sure he knows it.

30. Woody didn't volunteer, rather he was asked by Fitz to provide testimony
no doubt to confirm the official's statements who revealed the conversation he had with Woodward to Fitz. Likely that official also did not volunteer the info to Fitz but was fingered by someone else (like Rove?) trying to get a "get out of jailtime" card.

Woody testified in a deposition after being released to do so by his unnamed source who gave him the Wilson's CIA wife info. Additionally Libby and another official (reportedly Card?) released him to testify about their coversations, likely to show that they didn't discuss Wilson's wife with them, at least Woody claims to his best recollection he didn't disucss that topic with them.

34. I heard.........
....that Woodward testified after someone else informed Fitz that Woodward had some info on this.

So in other words, it happened the same way with Woodward like it did with Rove. Rove denied for 2 yrs that he knew anything about this and after Cooper's emails proved that he did know something about it, all of a sudden Rove goes......oh! I forgot about that conversation with Cooper!

Yeah right! A likely story......

7. Fitz did the smart thing
Selectively applied pressure, turned over every rock, and waited for the Bushies and their fellow travelers to turn on each other like rats in a coffee can. And it is working nicely, thank you.

33. KNOWN is mysteriously missing
The press and talking heads are already dropping the word "KNOWN" from Fitz's statement. It's like they are so freaking giddy, thinking that they have somehow punched holes in Fitz's case. What assholes! Olberman did a piece on this last night and showed Fitz's press conference where the word "KNOWN" can be heard loud and clear. Thank God for Keith!

17. Silly Rabbits...They're Starting To Rat Each Other Out
To hear Libby's attorney, it's like his client is 90% home free...all he's gotta do is flush out all these reporters and watch them all turn on each other. Yeah, right.

Kudos to Fitzgerald for letting the game play to him...he knows a lot more than anyone is aware of and this is spooking anyone who he come across. Woodward came out cause he was flushed out...others will as well and Fitzgerald can just cull the cream off the top in getting further conspiracy and perjury charges.

While Rove is 'under suspicion' he can't do a full out slime job on Fitz either ... not sure if that is just coincidence or not, but Rove has been very quiet since Libby's indictment.
