My stepson sent me a hateful Clinton spam--my reply
Here's what he wrote to me: "Hey this is a letter somebody wrote to bill clinton. Check out number 14. I didnt know this and I really dont know how true it is. But maybe its something you'll find interesting." I haven't included the spam he sent along as an attachment, but #14 was the allegation that the Israelis had held Mohammad Atta as a prisoner & Warren Christopher negotiated his release, so Clinton was responsible for 9/11.

Here's what I wrote back (thanks to Wonk for the snopes link debunking the Atta story):

I can't believe this anti-Clinton spam is still bouncing around the net. He hasn't been the president for over 2 years, & people are still so obsessed with his penis. Number 14 is not true.
http://www.snopes.com/rumors/atta.htm

I know how much some people hate Bill Clinton, but I find it mind-boggling how they still throw around these silly spam mailings as if they are proven fact. If you receive spams like that on a regular basis, & if you are inclined to reply to them, you might want to point out to the sender that while they are busy wallowing in sordid tales of Clinton's sexual exploits, people are dying & will continue to die:

Bush gave $43 million to the Taliban. "Never mind that Osama bin Laden still operates the leading anti-American terror operation from his base in Afghanistan, from which, among other crimes, he launched two bloody attacks on American embassies in Africa in 1998. Sadly, the Bush administration is cozying up to the Taliban regime at a time when the United Nations, at U.S. insistence, imposes sanctions on Afghanistan because the Kabul government will not turn over Bin Laden. Full story here
http://www.apfn.org/apfn/wtc_deal.htm
Note: Thanks to baldguy for this link

Outgoing National Security Advisor Samuel Berger gave Condoleezza Rice a dossier on bin Laden. "Berger told Rice: "I believe the Bush Administration will spend more time on terrorism generally, and on al Qaeda specifically, than any other subject." Rice claims not to remember the meeting. On Feb. 7, 2001, USA Today reported that the CIA had identified Osama bin Laden "as the most serious threat to America's national security." The White House and the FBI weren't listening."Full story here
http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/dispatch/2002-09-06/cols_ventura.html

Bush not concerned about Al-Qaeda "In the final analysis, it appears that whatever his flaws, Clinton responded in kind to the Al Qaeda threat as it existed in his time. Yet Bush -- who presided through the summer of 2001 when U.S. embassies across the world were buzzing with word of an impending attack -- did not. It's all there in the Times and the Post, if you're willing to see it." Full story here
http://www.prospect.org/webfeatures/2002/01/page-a-01-23.html

"I don't think anybody could have predicted that these people . . . would try to use an airplane as a missile, a hijacked airplane as a missile," Condoleezza Rice said. She's lying, they were told about the possibility on 8/6/02. Full story here
http://www.commondreams.org/headlines02/0518-04.htm

The timeline of what Bush did on 911 put out by the white house is bullshit. See the truth here
http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/911short.htm

Ever wonder why no fighter planes were scrambled to shoot down the hijacked planes? So do the people who produced this
http://www.ericblumrich.com/buddy.html
Note: this is the excellent flash There must have been a military order

And what about that scary uranium Iraq was supposed to have bought? "A good deal of information already points to a willful effort by the war camp in the administration to pump up an accusation that seemed shaky from the outset and that was pretty well discredited long before Mr. Bush stepped into the well of the House of Representatives last January."
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/07/12/opinion/12SAT1.html?ex=1058587200&en=61662bccd677183c&ei=5062&partner=GOOGLE

Some people in the military are starting to realize that they're being played for suckers. “American military men and women don’t deserve to be saluted with our words and insulted by our actions.” Army Times editorial here
http://www.armytimes.com/story.php?f=0-ARMYPAPER-1954515.php

The Pentagon didn't plan for the occupation. How unpatriotic of them. "Pentagon (news - web sites) planners failed to develop detailed plans for postwar Iraq (news - web sites) because they were convinced Iraqis would welcome US troops and that a hand-picked exile leader would replace Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) and impose order." Full story here

And the "Commander"-in-Chief should be prosecuted for desertion under the UCMJ
http://www.takebackthemedia.com/triwimp.html

Our troops are in a shooting gallery, but because George Bush & Co. insulted, humiliated, & lied to the countries who used to be our allies, no one else wants to send any troops. Hey, George, you broke it, you bought it.
http://msnbc.com/news/939320.asp?0cv=CB10

Here are the faces of the US men & women who have died in the desert for a lie. Please look at them--George Bush & Co. don't care that they are dead, except that it might be a "political liability". See if you can count how many of them have died since George Bush invited the Iraqis to "Bring Them On".

:D

He's 21, he's a Marine, & his father is going to "have a talk" with him as soon as he gets back from the west coast.

Aside: I don't know how much the Army Times editorial will impress him--I know there is inter-service rivalry.

34. Make sure
that his father tells him how upset he is that his son would pass lies to the woman he loves. These people need to be shamed for what they do. They need to learn that there are consequences to passing around lies - They lose the respect of people they love.

10. I think you're right
In the past, I had great difficulty in replying to things like this, I think mostly because I tried to be so meticulous & include everytinydetail, if you know what I mean. This time I decided it was more important to reply quickly, & I liked the idea of including a few flash animations, 'cuz kids like that kind of stuff.

11. These can be great opportunities !
I LOVEe to get these, especially if there's a whole group of people they were sent to,
because then you can hit and send them a message that shows how GREAT Clinton
was to a whole bunch of people and they can't even accuse you of spamming them.
Check out our http://www.LiberalsLikeChrist.Org/Clinton page,
for example and you can cut and paste 180 great accomplishments of the Clinton years,
and give them the link so that they can see even MORE at the site.

They'll be sorry they gave you that opportunity !!!

14. One problem
A lot of these links are from "biased" sources--ie left wing sources that don't support Bush to begin with. So your stepson is going to reply with:

"Those links are from far left sites that hate Bush. Why should I take their biased views seriously"?

21. Well,
the sources that could be considered biased are all flash animations except for the commondreams.org article.

I suppose it is intellectually dishonest of me, but I wanted to include flashes for him to watch, because IMO, music videos are a powerful means of communication, & he's at the age where that kind of thing makes a big impression. As for the commondreams article, I believe all of the facts that are in it can be corroborated in more "mainstream" sources, but I liked that particular article because it had a lot of good facts in it. Plus, the parts that could be considered editorializing might subliminably sink in!;-)

22. Jesus Carlos, do you WANT the Right Wingers to keep their upperhand?
All you've been posting lately is apologies and defenses of people who enable this corrupt and criminal regime, like Evan Bayh and Joe Lieberman. Some of the Lieberman hate here is out of context, but the fact remains that he IS an enabler of Bush's agenda, and in my eyes and the eyes of a lot of people here who you dismiss as "far left", that makes them the enemy.

It's not "far left" vs. "centrist Dems", it's a matter of right and wrong. People who oppose Bush actively are right, and those who enable him and muddle the issues are wrong, period.

30. I'd research it.....
discover it was bullshit and retort with the evidence I had compiled proving it so. That is what deductive reasoning is all about. Facts are Facts. The earth revolves around the sun....that is a fact. Whether or not a left winger or right winger makes the observation does not make it any less or more a factual.

33. "biased - ie left wing". So there's no such thing as RW bias?
besides, all those things are verifiable fact.

The only bias here is from the mainstream media, in the form of not mentioning these things.

If a RW white supremist group proclaims the earth is round, does that mean the earth is not round?

23. I have gotten this email several times from "well meaning" friends and
family. It is usually included with the one that has Al Gore (who wasn't there at the time) grilling Ollie about terrorism and Ollie saying he was afraid of Osama (which never did happen, it was a different terrorist). I snope these people all the time, the trouble is, I don't think they give a damn about the truth anymore....

27. Here's a tip to follow
I have a friend who likewise sends me all that garbage. When I answer him point by point, I make it a habit to Email everyone he sent it to. Now he feels embarrassed in front of all his friends and his repug Emails to me have not been so frequent.

I started doing it when he sent me the Email you just mentioned also.

As far as your reference to "leftie sites".....I can suggest:

www.cooperativeresearch.org

It is a massive compilation of information and timelines, but it is all sourced in mainstream articles that shouldn't be challenged by those who will avoid the truth on a flimsy excuse.

35. Your stepson sounds like a Pavlovian Clinton-hater.
There is a group of ignorant pathological perverts with a sociopathic hatred of the Clintons that the republican party manipulates and exploits by "ringing the Clinton bell." This makes these Pavlovian Clinton-haters get up on their hind legs and start salivating and barking with hatred. This group of ignorant pathological perverts is a significant portion of the republican base which needs its insatiable hunger for hatred fed on a fairly regular basis. The RNC considers these people comically pathetic but easily manipulated and reliable. The ringing of the Clinton bell by the RNC and its paid political whores is very predictable whenever a republican politician is being criticized or whenever the RNC is raising money.

That's why I wanted to reply quickly to what he sent me. And I didn't want to get sucked into refuting every allegation that was made against Clinton, because I think this is one of those instances where offense is the best defense; change the frame of the debate by showing the incompetence & outright lies of bushco.
