So I see this guy demonstrating this device that identifies suicide bombers

It was on one of the cable shows over the weekend. Little hand held gizmo with a little sensor on it and a bunch of flashing lights on it.

Supposedly this device can "smell" different kinds of trace explosives on ones person.

I was thinking this is great until I started asking myself so whats going to happen if someone points one of these little sniffers on me and it gets a false positive?

Do they just blow my brains out first and ask questions later? I don't think I would want to take any chances to find out what they would do.

What about people who hunt or target shoot regularly and are going to have traces of explosives on them a lot?

Anyone else see this show?

and they just pointed it at "Arabic-looking" people and pressed the hidden button . . .

That, or people they've identified (via photo) who have written LTTEs questioning the war . . .

2. Gunpowder

Is distinctly different from chemical explosive residue. All chemical(plastic) explosives have specific elemental markers in them so it can be determined where they were made via forensic examination.

Does anyone remember a few years ago that people at Christmas who had british fruit cake and/or spotted dick were setting off airport trace detectors at Heathrow?

Gee, I wonder what the suicide bomber per capita ratio is, anyway, I mean, so many of them seem to be getting past security at the airports all the time . . .

Now what we really need is a political dissident detector. That would be funny, and I would be locked away forever somewhere in Eastern Euro Disney or that other lovely famous Cuban bay resort.
