As former White House official Lewis Libby awaits trial on five counts of giving false information, Washington, D.C., insiders speculate on what his involvement was.

Libby, an adviser to President Bush and chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, was indicted last month for allegedly lying to investigators and a grand jury during the inquiry into the exposure of CIA agent Valerie Plame's name to the media.

Libby said his answers to FBI investigators were made to the best of his recollection. They were contrary to other testimony and notes Libby himself made in 2003 regarding his conversations with reporters, which is why he was indicted, The Washington Post reports.

Critics claim Libby fudged the truth in order to shield Cheney from any charges.
