83.9 million: Keep bashing Democrats, Karl Rove is laughing at you
Edited on Tue Oct-14-03 07:52 PM by sgr2
Keep in mind that this is primary money. Under the law Bush can spend this money, and then raise it again for the general election. He will shower a wave of anti-whoever our candidate advertising down on us. But keep bashing the Dems, just remember you have been warned.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 14 — A sugar baron, the House speaker and several lobbyists and business executives are among the volunteer fund-raisers who have helped President Bush raise at least $83.9 million since he started his re-election campaign last spring.

Democrats, meanwhile, have been trying to figure out how to help their nominee get through next summer, when that candidate may well be short on cash as Bush has most of his money left to spend.
Democratic Party Chairman Terry McAuliffe has urged his party’s candidates to consider skipping public financing so the eventual nominee could keep raising money after the primaries, before the general election fund-raising period starts. The party also is trying to raise about $16 million to spend on the nominee’s behalf.
Much of Bush’s money has come from $2,000-per-ticket fund-raisers. In addition, he has raised about $12.5 million this year through direct mail. The campaign’s average contribution is about $280, Mehlman said.

1. It's an ugly sight watching Dems...
...kiss Bush's ass. Maybe it doesn't bother you...but it's doing a disservice to the party and the American people.

8. It's even uglier watching people like you accuse fellow Democrats...
...of 'helping Bush*' when all they want is the Democrats to fight for their rights.

- Stop with the jingo BS.

2. I think the money should be an issue.
Take it away from him, just like the carrier landing. Why the hell does he need $180 million for an unopposed nomination? This is fat-cat overkill, and most of the country would agree, if it were presented to them correctly.

9. Bribes go fowards
Influence, like rent, is bought in advance. The Texas Fascist Party was paid for the tax cuts in the 2000 and 2002 cycles. Payments into the 2004 warchest are for future services. Likely a good portion of current bribes are going towards making the tax cuts permanent but a fair ammount of the cash will also be intended to preserve traditional right-wing issues such as the merger of church and state and weak enforcement of corporate crime laws.

6. You are correct in that premise, BUT
That kind of money goes a LONG way in television advertising.

7. Democrats should hammer on how much of his time is spent fund raising.
Is he running the country or is he out raising money?
