Staffers At Detention Center Fired Over Rape Of Retarded Boy

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Six juvenile detention center employees were fired and five others disciplined after police said a mentally retarded boy was raped by a sex offender who was allegedly assigned to bathe and change his diaper.

Tallahassee police have charged Lee Donton, 17, with two counts of sexually assaulting the disabled boy, who has a 32 IQ and was 15 at the time.

Guards at the Leon County juvenile detention facility denied they told youths detained there to care for the boy, but more than a dozen stated that Donton bathed the disabled boy and seven said other detainees were also told to care for the boy, authorities said.

"It is unlikely this many youths would have similar stories if it wasn't occurring," said a report by Department of Juvenile Justice's inspector general's office.

Not that I think this rape is the least bit okay, but who in the world decided to put this child in juvenile detention? Did they not realize something like this may happen?

Just curious, that's all.

Do you live in Florida?

I'll be down there over Thanksgiving, and I'm not really looking forward to it.

But, I guess there are worse places to be for the holiday than Tampa.

People are freaking insane down there.
