Man Accused Of Stuffing Boy In Freezer For Punishment
Man Accused Of Stuffing Boy In Freezer For Punishment

ARGO, Fla. -- A 23-year-old man was charged with aggravated child abuse after police said he disciplined his girlfriend's 5-year-old son by stuffing him into a chest freezer.

Nicholas Jermaine Black was arrested Thursday after officers investigated an anonymous tip to the state's child abuse hot line, Largo police said. The boy's mother, Melissa Bentley Hansen, 32, was charged with child neglect because she was present during some of the incidents.

Police said Black put the boy inside the running freezer and sat on top to keep him inside at least five times since mid-October. Caging a child is illegal in Florida.

"The kid could be heard inside the freezer, obviously kicking and pushing to get out," said Largo police Sgt. Stephen Slaughter. "That child must have been scared to death."

1. Of course it's Florida.
Why must my state be home to all this insanity!? Whenever I see a really bizarre headline here, I click on it and hope it's not Florida, and... it is.

Sigh.

3. Well, I click on and hope it's not Texas! Maybe it's the bush family's
governance of our states, that is to blame?

9. Because Florida is, or rather used to be, Paradise.
Even idiots and criminals want to at least visit Paradise. And where ever there are lots of tourists congregating, there will also be the criminal element following them for easy pickins.

5. When I read about ass hats like this my entire
philosophy of non violence is challenged within an inch of its life.
Being claustrophobic myself I find this story especially disturbing.
:grr:

6. Was the 23 year old man also abused as a child?
This kind of stuff is learned and passed on from generation to generation. The chain has to be broken somewhere.

8. Cox.net had a article earlier...
Not there now. It said that the kid was shoved in the freezer so he would stop crying.

(which always made sense to me, if a kid is crying, punishing him for crying will be sure to make him stop...)

11. I was filling up my gas tank one afternoon a few years ago, and I could
hear a baby (probably at the toddling, but not yet talking stage) whining and crying a bit. I heard a man, obviously stressed out, yelling that the baby to "shut up." I couldn't see where they were (lots of cars at the pumps), I could hear clearly.

The baby kept whining, so the man slapped the child really hard; there was a very loud cracking sound. The baby screammed and, predictably, cried louder and longer.

It's probably a good thing I couldn't see where the commotion was coming from, because I was filled with such rage that had I seen the guy, I probably would have gone over and tried to beat the SOB into the ground.

I had to content myself with saying loudly, "Oh, that's really smart, buddy. Hit a baby to make it stop crying. You must be a genius." Contempt and disgust was dripping from every syllable.

The man didn't answer.

10. WTF? "Caging a child is illegal in Florida."
Pray tell, in which states it is legal to 'cage' a child, especially in a fucking freezer!?
