It was the Shrub's "I am Not a Crook" moment.......
Took me back to that Nixon statement some 30 years ago. A lashing out by a US POTUS from a position of weakness not strength.....It's a shame he chose Veterans Day to stoop to this new low, but that's what happens when Tubby Mc Treason calls the shots from behind the WH curtain......

When you stake yourself to the ground, you sort of expect to go down fighting.

Do you think Dan Rather would be willing to be the narrator on the documentary expose of the cabal's litany of lies?

Please do not compare the very serious crimes of the Bush and Nixon Administrations with a blow job. Not only are the circumstances not even in the same stratosphere, neither were the speeches.

14. Wow! Great call!
I was thinking that it was Nixon-like, but could not put my finger on it. You nailed it! I think that this type of ranting, coming on the day it does, and when 5 American soldiers died in Iraq, will come back to haunt him.

One of my favorite DUers has a couple posts saying Bush scored some victory. I think not. DUers who feel that way now will see the difference when they wake up sober in the morning. More, the war in Iraq and the scandals at home will have a sobering effect on the general public. This will rank just below the "mission accomplished" event in the months ahead.

21. My brother said that
we will begin to see Bush become more Nixon-like, because there is a growing paranoia within him. George has never been told "no" or "you are wrong" in his childhood, which for all practical purposes has extended until the present time. He is the very definition of a spoiled brat. And now, he sees failure all around him; he sees the Plame scandal taking a toll; the war is not going how he planned; and the public has concluded that he is dishonest and incompetent.

Nixon, of course, was the opposite of spoiled in his childhood, and he was a very capable politician. But his personality make-up was one where he projected inner demons onto others on the outside. When he was finally forced to recognize that he was trapped -- by his own lies -- he became even more paranoid, to the point that he was unstable.

While Bush's personality make-up is different (far more shallow, and lacking the complications that make Nixon fascinating to even his enemies), the fact that he is not able to control events .... or have Mom and Dad buy control .... has damaged his curious grasp on reality. Because deep down, he is convinced that he is "the holy one" with unique understanding of the sacred (not uncommon in those who first cling to religion when they quit substance abuse, or with people who are psychotic), he really believes that those who oppose him are evil-doers. That won't play well between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

27. Henry K was famous
for saying, "Can you image how great he would be if anyone had loved him as a child?" Neither of Nixon's parents were there for him. And he clearly suffered from trust issues, which made it impossible for him to actually have friends, even as an adult. He had business relationships that verged on "friendship." But in the healthy sense, Nixon lacked one of the essentials for being a fully developed human being.

Now, I hope you don't mind me rambling on here. But something occures to me: I've read before that, surprisingly, more than any other 20th century political figure, Nixon was actually an "existential man." Now, that sounds odd at first, right? But perhaps because of his inability to connect to others, Nixon internalized his experiences. There is no doubt the man thought about a wide range of issues, though he really only trusted his own frame of reference. (Reading his transcripts, this becomes very clear.)

Bush, on the other hand, lacks that internal locus of control. He has the same type of "self discipline" as a 15-year old high school athlete. He depends on the external rewards of his coaches (Mom, Karl, the selective, clapping crowds) for his reassurance that he is doing good. As those rewards are stripped away, and he is exposed to the reality that all of America isn't cheering him on, he lacks the internal strength to carry on. Instead, the bitter, angry shit spews forth.

Strange to find a president who makes Nixon look "okay."

34. Bush is shallow & unknowable.
It's such a weird combination - I literally have no clue what he's thinking. Even Nixon, you could understand. His persecution complex, his mistrust of others, stemming from a bad childhood. He's an interesting character. Bush? What's his excuse? Why is a man who grew up with everything so angry? Why hasn't he developed any interior life, any sense of self independent of his cronies/enemies? Sometimes when things crumble, politicians can gain strength & maturity. But Bush just keeps getting weaker & more immature each day. And how will he act if things get any worse? Fundamentally, I don't understand how someone who grew up with such security, wealth, & support could become so incredibly flawed & dysfunctional.

35. I didn't catch any of his speech until the national news
was televised tonight.

As I sat there listening, I said to Mr. Wonderful, "this sounds like Tricky Dick in November 1973, when he told the American people "I am not a crook".

What I noticed was that even the hand-picked audience seemed not to buying his BS. Most of them had a WTF look on their faces.

I hope and pray that someone with a modicum of sense has taken the nuclear football away from this fool. I think he's delusional and that's downright scary.
