Distorting Islam?
What the heck does that mean? If the terrorist were perfect followers of Islam does Bush think it be ok if we give in? Since when was it the duty of the president of the United States to tell the world what is a proper form of a religion and a distorted view.

President Bush said Friday that the United States and its allies will never give in to violent extremists who distort Islam and kill innocent people.

1. It's actually one of the few things ** does right
It may not be **'s place to tell us what Islam is about, but at least he isn't smearing it either.

It's not his place anymore than it is Pat Robertson's place to tell us what Islam is about.

2. Actually
As a private citizen if Pat wants to tell the world what is or isn't a proper religion he has a right.

The president of a secular state has no place in a speech to his representatives what he considers to be proper religions in the eyes of the state. Basically he's saying that people that follow religion that are improper to the state are fair game to be destroyed by the state. This is fundamentally against the founding principals of our country.

4. The reason I said that...
The Pat Robertson bit was a joke. There was once a quote from his wife in which she admitted that he was a politican and not a preacher.

Bush does not have a right to say this stuff, but he's been breaking down the wall of separation between Church and State ever since he came into office, this is just one more thing to add to it. And, if was breaking the Wall I'd at least rather have George "They're deestortin' Islam" Bush than George "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition" Bush.

3. Yeah, so?
All the things there are to knock Bush for - and you choose this? Is it your view that Islam calls for the killing of innocents in Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Bali, Lebanon, Australia, Spain, England, U.S., etc., etc., etc.?

8. I believe
a criminal is a criminal no matter what his religious views are. The head of state has no place telling me what is or isn't a proper form of religion. Worse by telling THEM what the United States considers a proper religion it only fuels many followers of Islam that the United States really is a Christian nation that will impose their religious philosophy on them. This is one of the deep underlying fears of many peaceful people in the Middle East. Statements like this only help the terrorist recruiters. It certainly doesn’t help keep are military safe in Iraq.

6. But that makes 'distorting Islam' in important criterion:
if 'the United States and its allies will never give in to violent extremists who distort Islam and kill innocent people,' then Dubya has to know when the United States should give in to violent extremists who do not distort Islam but do kill innocent people. ;)
