The most beautiful woman I’ve ever met...
She appeared to be in her late sixties, spoke rather poor English with a thick eastern European accent, wore a tattered coat, had crooked, yellowed teeth, and a pronounced ‘widows hump’. I was leaving the library when she approached me… she had a toddler with her… a little boy with curly black hair, eyes almost as black as his hair, and a smile that could light up the night sky. She said that he was her grandson and she was bringing him to a play group... she thought this was where the play group met, but it wasn’t. She apologized profusely for her poor English, asking me if I knew where the play group was.

She was unable to understand my directions, so I walked with her & her grandson to the nearby community center, taking them to the room where the play group met. The little boy gave his grandma a kiss, then turned around and gave me the biggest smile as he ran off to play with the other children. Then, with tears in her eyes, tears that sparkled like diamonds from eyes that were windows to such a loving soul, she said, “Thank you so much, I’m so sorry for making you walk all this way with me, thank you so much, God bless you, you are so kind, God bless you.”... and she hugged me. And, with tears in my eyes, I thanked her for the privilege & honor of walking just a few steps with her and her precious grandson.

A few steps in my journey of life, enriched by this beautiful woman and her precious grandson.

4. Thank you for that beautiful story, Sapphire Blue.
Isn't it a wonderful feeling to be able to help someone when they need it?

(No wonder the Repugs are so sour. They will never know that joy.)

would have taken a taxi. You should have misdirected her to give her a
lesson about the worth of free advice and the unreliable nature of the
world. People going through life on their good looks and promiscuous
hugs is what's wrong with the world today. People need to know they
have to stand on their own two feet and not rely on the kindness of
strangers. She was probably a muslim from Bosnia--they don't all look
like arabs, you know. For all you know she could have been a terrorist,
and that kid could have been a suicide bomber. :sarcasm:

27. Isn't it sad when people look at the world with eyes like that?
As I was coming out of the library, I noticed that she started to approach a few other people... who each promptly turned and walked in the other direction.

32. Our society has this aversion
to honoring the elderly. I LOVE the elderly, and in the past, I was privileged to have worked with many of them.

There are few cultures that I know of (I know Asian cultures do) that actually have respect for their elderly. We mistreat them, harass them, rob them, kill them, and ignore them.

If it weren't for those who "went before us" we would certainly be NOWHERE today.

The elderly deserve SO much more than they get.

Leave this Level for Higher ones...but we are mired in Old Shit that shifts the wealth/Power to only a few....like in pre rev France.

18. Do you want to make it grow?
Edited on Fri Nov-11-05 01:26 PM by DrDebug
The next time you take a walk through a city, go for a long walk and try to avoid the busiest areas. And try the following: For every person you see make a one-word wish and try to look them in the eye.

So "joy" and look at them. The next person could be "love". Then it could be "compassion". Then it could be "friendship" and just make something fun of it. Just try to look at every person and send one word.

I've tried and for some reason I have forgotten about doing it (isn't that the strange truth, so I need to do it as well), because the result is magnificant. After about 30 minutes you'd become happy. After about an hour you are in bliss and it's hard not to burst into laughter. After about two hours you'll notice that many people will greet you even though they don't know you, but somehow they sense you and smile back at you and give a small greeting.

And this may sound too good to be true. Well, all I can say is, try it and you'll soon find out...

It made me cry and it's one of the sweetest stories I've heard in a long time. In this day and age with so many people being so rude and mean to everyone, it is nice to know there's still some good people like you around!! Hope your day is great!

is an elusive state that sometimes is manifest in our lives, through the most innocent and simplest of circumstances. That is true beauty. Congratulations on your epiphany, it will be a treasure for a lifetime.

33. I see kindness and generosity around me everyday.
Almost every person I know in my small town would go out of their way to lend a helping hand, reach down to assist a child or endure hardship for another human being. You will never read about any of their good deeds in a newspaper, but it is what keeps me optimistic about the human race. I think you would fit into my town very well. O8)
