WHY IS IT?
Some posters on DU post a thread, and then "run away" from that thread, not to be heard of again? Isn't the purpose of DU to have adult, informed discussion? In polite circles, when you are conversing with someone , it is courteous to reply. In my opinion, there is nothing ruder than being left to talk to the air! I'm not talking about arguments or divisive posts. When someone asks a question of the "poster" and then they disappear out into space somewhere, it is very irritating. Have some manners folks! You know who you are, and I'm not talking about "freepers" either.

1. agree with that!
I often try to engage discussion only to be ignored. People like to post but often don't like so much to respond. I sometimes wonder if everyone is aware of the "view all" button... which shows the text of a comment and not just its title.

13. Sometimes I write something,post it,
and I check responses and realize nobody is saying anything yet..so I go offline, or read other stuff,or do other stuff and come back and check. I sometimes reply if someone has replied and nobody has replied to them already and I catch it.. Sometimes my posts are put there just to start conversations, and since I put them there to provoke conversations on a topic I am glad people are discussing the topic amongst themselves..Replies to me personally are not important as the discussion about the topic I brought up,so I don't take it personal when no one says anything_to me_.Sometimes the threads go fast too..and you miss replies especially when things are on level 3.Du is a big discussion with 80,000 people,I doubt it if most of those people know I exist on here. And that's ok I don't care. I'm not here for a popularity contest.I'm here to learn from others and bounce thoughts around, talk about current events, get pissed off or happy about political crap, share what I know with anyone who wants it.And I always love the CAT THREADS!
Don't feel bad..I got kitties....

18. sure, I don't expect a reply to everything....
and I, too, like to throw topics out for discussion and just step aside. But sometimes I'll take great effort to write something and truly wish to have others comment on it.

By the way, that 80,000 number is just "registrations." There are probably 2,000 or so active DUers.

And I have kitties too! 4 of them. Including 2 kittens who seem very interested in typing something on their own -- but they're not into politics so I have to come here for that. :)

>But sometimes I'll take great effort to write something and truly >wish to have others comment on it.

I know what you mean,But I look at it this way.. when I bust my hump and write something, I am giving a gift to anyone. They can do what they want with it.. I can hope it gets read and let it go like a helium balloon with a wish written on a piece of paper tied to it's string. It's like a spell or prayer,it is a drop in the ocean and sometimes it takes awhile for the ripples to become waves ..Or for the eyes to see that balloon and hear your words.. Ironically when I have this let it go into the aether attitude, when I fear no one is listening, I don't feel as hurt when it gets ignored..Ironically I find my articles in the strangest places.. like Rense!?!?WTF???

>And I have kitties too! 4 of them. Including 2 kittens who seem very >interested in typing something on their own -- but they're not into >politics so I have to come here for that. :)

Kitties and keyboards..sheesh.

Anyways they might be into politics you wouldn't know because most humans can't speak their language or read it. Maybe Tvw30!,.>3#&*q in cat typing means Fuck Bush! they don't get upset when you pick them up off your keyboard ..Who knows maybe you are you stopping them in the middle of a political science thesis..that you can't read..*smile*

they get busy or they get tired and go to bed or whatever. That happens to everyone and that's fine. But there are some DUers who just disappear every time, LOL! I'm not offended by it or anything like that, but I just don't understand it. Like I said in my other post, the whole point of being here is to discuss things ... isn't it?

8. Yes, but if you come back more than 48 hrs later...
Your posts aren't there, so it's impossible to get back to the thread, unless you search hoping to remember every subject.

And, we could exhcnage posts for a while, I could wander off to Theology or a state forum and then log off and go to bed.

You might think I was ignoring you, when actually, I just forgot. :)

22. AMEN TO THAT!
Does anyone think we can do anything about it? One thing I've tried, is to bookmark any post I start so that I can get back to it the next time I'm on. As for my own usage of DU, I COULDN"T GO 48 HRS. without checking in here!!! If I'm on for say 4 hrs or so at night, I'm checking my post box very often!!

24. I've tried bookmarking my own posts ...
I've also tried using the search feature to track them down. It's just that "My Posts" is soooo much more convenient.

I usually check in at DU at least once a day, unless I'm busy, sick or "burnt out" on politics and need a break. :-) Of course, right now I have the flu, so "sick" doesn't always stop me from being here, LOL!

46. Here are two more tips for following up: 1) Use the "My Posts" feature
(which keeps a list of your posts for the past 48 hours) 2) keep a folder on your desk top called "Special DU Threads" (or whatever you want to call it). When ever you start a thread or even if its not a thread you started but one you find particularly worth saving, drag the little "du" icon from the address field of your web browser (right next to the http: part) and drop it into the folder. I do this all the time then later go back and edit the names of these short cuts to more accurately reflect the thread they are linked to. I find this a much faster way of getting to threads than the DU book marks feature. Clicking on the short cut will open a browser window and download that thread, even if it is no longer active.

I don't post items that often, but I more or less will get in on an interesting conversation on one thread or another. Just tonight , someone on a thread asked a question of the poster, and even though I suggested that the "poster" reply to the question, seeing as they were the author of the post, this persons question was totally ignored!! It makes me so mad sometimes. Are folks are being ignored because they are considered too stupid to deserve an answer. (at least that's the impression I'm getting) Those that know....should tell what they know, or explain what they mean. Right? We all have to learn somehow, and better here than on some other site!

5. Sometimes I'm not sure how to respond
Sometimes the response from a poster is much greater than my question ever hoped to get back.....(and that happens A LOT).

So I feel it's better just to let the thread sit (with the great response) rather than my 'cluttering it up/making it smaller' with some lame ass 'response' from me.

32. Learning and listening is fundamental.....
but SOMETIMES 'things' just don't add up/make sense... and that's when it's MOST IMPORTANT to ask questions and to ask for clarification/substantiation. Take off the gloves and don't worry about being 'PO-LITE' ~ require real answers to legitimate questions. It's your duty/calling to DEMAND the TRUTH, especially if you call yourself a 'discerning Christian' - what else are you 'discerning' about if it's not the truth, and the truth of Chrst'?

Peace

We should at least be able to clarify our thoughts that we post, to someone who is not aware of what we are talking about, no? I mean someone who is not politically savvy, and is trying to learn from our experiences. Hell, it's late, and I'm getting brain dead. My own thoughts are getting too deep for ME! I posted something early in the morning and completely forgotten about it, it was sometime last week. I'm an insomniac and the medication that I take causes me to lose my memory. Someone did send me a PM but by the time I got to the PM the post was gone from the "my post" feature. I try not to post because I forget so easily that I posted something and never return to the post. Your right, it's rude to hit and run on a post which is why I try not to post, but of course sometimes I forget.
