Don't listen to them. Turn them off. All the right-wing propagandists.
If this thread even convinces one DUer to turn off the right-wing propagandists (we're not allowed to use the "w" word, right?) then it will have been worth every keystroke. I've said this before, but every few months or so, it bears repeating.

If you want to know what the "enemy" is saying and/or doing, check out http://www.mediamatters.org. (I'm not affiliated with them in any way, LOL.) They do a bang-up job keeping tabs on what those bugfuck insane idiots are saying and doing. And they give you an easy action item to take on the really heinous stuff. There are other progressive websites that keep up with such stuff, too.

If you just enjoy the drama of it all, read the threads here written by DUers who do still watch them. Or watch The Daily Show, where he skewers them all the time.

You know the shit they spew is just stupid. You know they are misdirected, ignorant, hateful assholes. You know your blood pressure goes up just listening to it.

So why do you listen and watch? Don't give me the train wreck explanation....go rent Faces of Death or something.

Their ratings/viewer numbers are dropping and you can HELP THEM DROP FASTER. Help them become an irrelevancy even faster.

I'll tell you a secret: I know their biggest fear. It's not being caught in a lie. It's not having a cream pie thrown in their face while they're giving a speech at some university.

It's a dead microphone. Crickets chirping outside. Their unsold books being dumped in a bin at the DOLLAR STORE. All that vitriol and no one listening.

THAT is their greatest fear, my fellow DUers. It strikes terror in their black little hearts. It means NO JOB, NO PAYCHECK.

Wanna really get 'em? Turn 'em off. Permanently.

Thank you.

2. THANK YOU
Rush Limbaugh is going to spew the same lies, the same bullshit, day after day after day. Ditto O'Reilly. Ditto Hannity.

You mentioned Media Matters. David Brock deserves all of our thanks for creating this valuable resource...to expose the bullshit of the right-wingers.

Media Matters, as you said, is all we need.

And don't listen to the assholes anymore.

Their bullshit is ALL THE SAME!! Why bother listening? Same shit, different day as they say. That goes doubly true for the right-wing propagandists, so why bother?

Yes, David Brock. How far he's come. And I'm very thankful.

Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 08:01 PM by tjwash
Not the hosts, who listens to them anyway, it's the callers!! They are freakin' hilarious.

I've heard everything from "the state is doomed", to "I'm so depressed I just want to give up".

Maybe some of them will go to somewhere more conservative then they are. Mordor or Geidi Prime perhaps?

6. Ratings feed them and along with the angst
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 08:03 PM by rosesaylavee
we spew when we finish watching them and listening to their lies. I'm with you BB, I read about them here, watch Jon STewart make them laughing stocks... and it's ok. I am not missing a thing.

Learned early on in grade school, bullies HATE to be ignored. Their greatest fear is that no one gives a damn about whatever they are hollering about. Their ratings are hitting the toilet anyway - let them sink further without us.

Here here!

7. I love the analogy.
Yep, bullies hate nothing more than to be confronted or ignored.

Since we can't all go personally confront the right-wing propagandists (and it would actually feed their need for publicity), the best thing to do is ignore them cold.

I'm not kidding when I say it's the fear that wakes them up in a cold sweat at night. "What if everyone stops listening?"

I check mediamatters from time to time.

But I see an alarming number of threads here (not that it's not allowed, mind you) on what rush said or what o'lielly said, etc.

I mean my GOD, seriously. Those two are the most ball-less creatures that ever walked the earth.

Heck, just out of solidarity with the troops who can't get away from that drug addict rush, I'd not listen to him.

I hope you have better luck than I did.

It IS all the same. Anyone who says "I gotta keep tabs on the enemy!" is bullshitting, or they lack listening comprehension skills, because if you can't GUESS what the enemy is going to say before they say it, you aren't listening, or have no imagination. Right-wing talking points follow a formula, and keeping tabs is not needed.

VERY excellent!

Actually I think it's:

a) habit (which can be broken)

b) the drama (in which case I advise hooking into something else dramatic that isn't right-wing)

Every person I can peel off their viewership/listenership, I'm happy.

I don't disagree with your points. But I don't like the implication that I should or should not listen to anyone, no matter how big the a**holes they may be. Last time I looked, this corruption of the Republican Party you condemn controlled the House, the Senate and the White House. They got there somehow, and it is both intellectually fascinating and historically repelling. And so I listen (admittedly, as much as I can stand), and I will be that much stronger in 2006 for it. My blood pressure doesn't go up. My eyes narrow, and focus.

50. With rare exception, the last time I regularly watched any
TV news was 1992. I don't even remember the exact reason I turned it off, probably just because I found it mind-numbing and lacking in the depth I wanted. I found print sources, and now internet sources, to be more accurate and in-depth.

The rare exceptions are: Democratic conventions and HUGE things like 9/11 and national elections, but even then, I try to restrict it.

40. We do not NEED the Corporate Owned Media any more!
We can NOW define our OWN perception of what the REAL social world is. I just posted this to another thread but it is equally relevant here:

They have lost all credibility with me--as, indeed, has ALL of the CORPORATE OWNED MEDIA. It isn't just the lead up to the war. Yes, that is part of it. They tried to make me believe in a lie. I didn't BECAUSE I have too many different sources of RESPECTABLE information outside of the Corporate "main stream". Democratic Underground is one of them: A behive of cross-fertilized information going through constant checks and revisions as new information accrues.

Now we ALL know that the NYT lied. Even they know it. They won't come right out and say it, of course, because they remain HYPOCRITS. They may very well NOW turn all their eire upon the Bush Cabal and the neoCONS and try to get us to believe that THEY SERVE OUR INTERESTS AND NOT THOSE OF THEIR CORPORATE OWNERS.

It is another lie I will NEVER believe. EVER. If Bush goes, it will be because they now want him gone as much as we do. They put him in power, just like they put Sadam in power, and kept him there because that is what they wanted too at one time.

You understand what this means, Mr/Ms NEW YORK TIMES?

I know you do. You are beginning to learn that WITHOUT CREDIBILITY structures of social power and influence COLAPSE.

The world is changing very rapidly. The Old Republic is dead. You helped kill it and keep the corpse tarted up so, hopefully, no one would notice.

Meanwhile, all that is GOOD in humanity, all that is GOOD in the human species, all that is GOOD in the United States is moving on without you.

Get it: WE DO NOT NEED YOU ANY MORE. We're now going to shape our OWN perception of reality--and you are not invited.
