We won in a fundamentalist stronghold, after a W fly-in: is Rover over?
Shrub flew into Virginia last night, then, without that state locked up. Did Karl advise this? Or is W winging it on his own, or with Andy, Laura and Harriett? Is it possible we're rid of Rove?

1. He came in last night at 7pm
and spoke in a hanger at Richmond Airport to staffers. ANd it was stand rally the troops fare at that.. Never laid down the Gauntlet to say this is what was at stake if Kaine wins. DId not scare the faithful to the polls.

It was too late tomake local news until 11pm it could be seen either as seperation or tokenism, either way it was waaaaay to late to make a difference one way or the other inmy mind.

Pretty much a non-event

2. Rove must be keeping a low profile (if that is possible) --
He knows every move he makes is being watched.

If KKKarl is out of commission, maybe we can get some honest elections again!!

5. Virginia is not a fundamentalist strong hold.
There are a lot of conservatives, but we seldom elect the radical right.

7. I thought some of the major "religious" Right figures and churches...
were headquartered there. (Who's in Lynchburg?) That's what I meant. Not that fundamentalists were a majority, but that they were a strong presence.

9. Unfortunately, Jerry "Tele-Tubby" Falwell
is in Lynchburg (don't ya love the name) and
Pat "the Assassin" Robertson is in Virginia Beach,
but don't hold that against us. Central VA is a
hotbed of alt.spirituality
The Monroe Institute, Yogaville, 7 Oaks,
and a lot of Sufi's down in Albemarle.

14. Yeah, but do you want to have a laugh?
Per the SBE website, Kaine won (albeit narrowly: <1%) in Virginia Beach, and by nearly 4% in Lynchburg. BUUUUURN!

OTOH, the Rethug candidates for LT and AG won by margins of 11% and 14% in Virginia Beach, and 6% in each race in Lynchburg, which says to me that voters relexively voted for their native party for those races, and for governor, realized what an idiotic assmunch Kilgore was.

We do have these rare moments of clarity time to time, don't we? :P

10. Not only

Is Falwell's bunch in Lynchburg, but Pat Robertson also makes his home in Va.

Virginia is red in my view and all things being equal, the Repukes win here. The last two Republican candidates for gov were Mark Early and Jerry Kilgore, total losers.

Meanwhile, Democrats ran two excellent candidates, Mark Warner and Tim Kaine.

The real test will be if Mark Warner runs against George Allen. If we win that, then YES...maybe we are going blue.

11. I don't think it's that. I think they really do believe all they have to
Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 10:47 PM by jane_pippin
do is have Georgie show up some where, say 9/11, terra terra terra, hard work, progress, steadfast, do so, say the candidate is a good guy with American values, pat him on the back, and off they go--fly away home!

They haven't changed their M.O. at all. And that's their problem. The arrogance that let them think they need only placate people with flags and jesus while they go about their corporatist agenda is stunning. And the contempt they have for the public is so blatant that they think those little stunts he's been pulling with his photo ops would still work.

The emperor has no clothes and the reality based community is showing him some mirrors. I expect them to plow forward with their shtick anyway, Rove or not.

edit: spellin'
