So what happens to Corzine's Senate seat?
Does he appoint his successor or is there a special election?

4. He appoints his successor...
Kos had a post on this today. Hopefully he appoints Codey who has been a comparatively popular interim governer and who is for the most part a clean candidate, rather than someone who is tied to the democratic party bosses who have bad reputations.

8. My Bets He Picks Bob Menendez
Corzine gets to pick his replacement and Menendez, a Cuban, has been working his way up the state and national party ladder for a while.

9. Appointment then election in '06
Unfortunately, it'll probably be a tough race for us. The republican nominee is going to be Tom Kean, Jr., the son of the ultra-popular Republican governor from the '80s (and 9/11 Commission member) Tom Kean Sr.

Polls show him beating all the major Democratic names - Reps. Frank Pallone, Tom Andrews, Bob Menendez. Actually, I really hope it's not Menendez, who's very much a machine politician and people well versed in NJ politics tell me he's got some very shady ethical issues.

The hope among NJ Dems is that Corzine appoints Acting Gov. Richard Codey, who is extremely popular and is the only guy that polls show holding the seat. Had Codey been allowed to run (party leaders elbowed him out of the way in favor of Corzine) it wouldn't even have been a contest.
