It seems that one story, tied idirectly to another story, has blown up in the GOP's face. Am I readinf this correctly?...
Monday's early news round up and the WH press gaggle were curiously adamant about getting a straight answer frm the WH: "Do we tortire prisoners and if not, why is the WH determined to veto the senate bill outlawing the use of torture?"
O-kay. That was all well and good. WHPC has been illustrating some spine these days and McClellan was KO'd in the third by Helen Thomas (I inferred all this from some mighty, mighty posts on DU earlier in the day, btw. Have yet to read the transcript..).
I leave work, get home and tune in to DU and BY GOLLY! There's a leak investigation request by Frist AND Lott (not the best of buddies in the best circumstances these days) relating directly to the question posed above: "Do we torture prisoners...".
There is no way I can believe this is a coincidence, but the big question is now: who put the ball in play this time? It appears at present that a GOP staffer (at minimum) leaked it, but this is where I get lost: Is the infighting in the GOP deep enough and bitter enough to warrant an investigation that could actually put their own seats up for grabs in the next go-around?
I cannot possibly see where any GOPer would/could win in this situation. Why would they jeopardize their own seat(s) for petty payback?
Help me out, guys. What am I missing?
