When is the Dem. party gonna define a strong agenda?
I am constantly seeing polls where * and the senate republicans have very low approval ratings, which we all know.

One would think the approval ratings of our party would be pretty high, but they aren't. The main reason: people say our party is not much of an alternative because we lack a really strong agenda.

When are they gonna get it together? The '06 elections are less than a year away now, so they need to get crackin' on it!

2. Really; is what we stand for so bad that we can't state it?
How about how we want to save S.S. and Medicare, we don't believe in tax cuts for the rich at the expense of the poor, We don't want preemptive wars based on lies, we want good jobs for the people in the Untied States, Or the destruction of the middle-class is not a goal to which we espire....and that's just a start....If the Democrats aren't willing to represent the people, perhaps it;s time we hold their feet to the fire as well.

3. Single Payer National Healthcare
I live in the red half of a blue state, but all I hear people saying is "national healthcare." Around here, Dems could take any election on that issue alone.

5. When we ditch the Bidens & Liebermans...
who undercut every attempt at forming strong, populist, alternative message.

7. I'll agree with that.
One thing I was thinking is that for '06, since we do not know who our Pres. candidate is going to be yet, we should have each Dem. leader pushing an agenda that they are well-known for.

This is just a scenario, but for example:

- Bill and Hillary could push for repairing our world image, and foreign policy.
- Al Gore could have an agenda on environmental issues.
- John Edwards could lead an agenda on populism, worker's rights, and helping to eliminate poverty.
- Wes Clark could lead an agenda for a sensible strategy in Iraq.
- Barack Obama could have an agenda for minority rights/issues.

There are more agendas we could stand for, but you all get the point.

In my opinion, if this was done, and all of our leaders were behind all these agendas, I think people would see us as a strong, united party.

6. More to the point: when will the media stop to ignore the Dems' agenda.
The main reason people think the Dems dont have an agenda is because the media spend the little time they give to important information to Bush and the Republicans.

As long as the questions asked to Dems on TV are about the Republican agenda, how do you expect the Democrats to make theirs known.

9. The republicans said they didn't need an agenda when
the Democrats were in control - just bash Democrats. I must say I hear a lot of good ideas from Democrats but they do get drowned out because the republicans control all.

"Election Reform"

A fundamental tenet of our democracy is our right to vote and to have that vote counted. But we must be vigilant in protecting those rights and ensuring that our voting system works for every American.

Democrats are determined to reforming the voting system in this country to create federal standards for our elections. Our voting system must include verification, accountability, and accuracy. Democrats want to increase access to polls with Election Day registration, shorter lines, and early voting. We also want to modernize election equipment and increase impartiality. 11. Dean said it is our job to keep the GOP from doing more damage.
They are setting an agenda to be released soon, but their main job as minority party is opposing.

It is the GOP who wants the Democrats to bail them out of their mistakes and misery. But we can't. The extreme wing of GOP has hijacked it all, and it will take moderate Republicans to stop it.

They would rather have the Democrats do it than stand up to the hijackers. They are not courageous enough.

13. We have not put together a good message
Over and over, it is clear the GOP has their publicity and message much more together than we do. It is very easy talk about what is wrong, but we have not said what we will do and how we will do it if we the voters give us a chance.

I have actually talked to a number of Bush voters who now see the error of their way, but the Democratic Party has not given them any real understanding of what they will do that is different other than replace some of the idiots that Bush has appointed.

Unless we start NOW to make the country aware of what we will do, there is much less of a chance we will get that chance.

BTW: Just looking through this forum, most all one sees is rants about what has happened, how the election was stolen from us etc. Discussions about whether Kerry should run and so forth. We cannot wait until someone is nominated for the 2008 election. We need to get out a message, so that person will have a congress he/she can work with in 2006. We need to stop Bush with that congress in 2006, and without the country understanding what that congress will do, we diminish our chances of making it happen.
