8. Well I embargo selectively I guess

some of the organisations that put the flag up on their website after 9/11 got embargoed. I ended up selecting Swiss software instead of American in one case which meant 10k of our money went to Europe instead of the US. But I'm writing this on an Apple computer. I think you'll find that in some left circles embargoing the US is not a new idea but applying it in this interdependent world is a little harder.

The US accounts for about a quarter of the world economy. Were high trade barriers somehow erected between it and the rest of the world, the results would be a global depression. China, India, Brazil and other growing economies that supply the US likely would suffer the most.

Interesting? Yep.

Worthwhile? Doubtful. It likely would end in wars. Depressions have a way of bringing out the worst in polities.

Likely? Not a prayer.

10. I've been partly expecting the rest of the world to lay it down on us

for quite some time. But there are many interests and forces in this world, and I believe the most powerful of them transcend US party politics and have quite a lot at stake if the US were to crumble. So I have a feeling that the global powers-that-be will never let that happen.

The 'crumbling' we are experiencing now isn't even noticed by half of americans.

There is too much at stake in the world economy if the US were to get shut off. Maybe in a couple decades, when the huge economies of places like India and China are more stable and secure, but I don't think it would happen any time soon...Too much at stake for too many powerful people.
