1. Might actually work
if we still made anything here. An embargo against American goods would hurt India, Bangladesh, China and Mexico more than it would Americans.

3. For one thing, that would put Wal-Mart out of business.
And, it might get the sheeple's attention. (It might rally them to Bush's defense, but I think for the most part, it would turn them on him...)

4. It would work on so many levels
not only would we have to look at our behavior, we would also have to start doing and making things again.

Probably not a good idea to starve someone who owes you trillions of dollars.

6. President 'bully' bush just had the rest of the Americas send him packin'
without an international trade deal. This psychopath is so arrogant he won't even get the message until an embargo or its equivalent actually happens.

7. All they have to do is stop lending us money
No embargo is necessary.

8. Well I embargo selectively I guess
some of the organisations that put the flag up on their website after 9/11 got embargoed. I ended up selecting Swiss software instead of American in one case which meant 10k of our money went to Europe instead of the US. But I'm writing this on an Apple computer. I think you'll find that in some left circles embargoing the US is not a new idea but applying it in this interdependent world is a little harder.

9. Yep. A global depression would be quite interesting.
The US accounts for about a quarter of the world economy. Were high trade barriers somehow erected between it and the rest of the world, the results would be a global depression. China, India, Brazil and other growing economies that supply the US likely would suffer the most.

Interesting? Yep.

Worthwhile? Doubtful. It likely would end in wars. Depressions have a way of bringing out the worst in polities.

Likely? Not a prayer.

16. Any government that supported the blockade
would be toppled by a shock and awe campaign, followed by an insurgency and a puppet government.

for quite some time. But there are many interests and forces in this world, and I believe the most powerful of them transcend US party politics and have quite a lot at stake if the US were to crumble. So I have a feeling that the global powers-that-be will never let that happen.

17. Not the kind of crumbling this type of embargo would cause
The 'crumbling' we are experiencing now isn't even noticed by half of americans.

There is too much at stake in the world economy if the US were to get shut off. Maybe in a couple decades, when the huge economies of places like India and China are more stable and secure, but I don't think it would happen any time soon...Too much at stake for too many powerful people.

You can't just shut off such an important component of the world economy.
