Who said Dems don't have solutions?
The pResident had the perfect opening to better our world following the 9/11 attacks. He chose the destructive war path instead.

An Energy 'Apollo' Project could have been put forward to a population and world that was ready to back the pResident just after 9/11. In other words he could have spelled out that we are too dependent on foriegn oil and that it funds terrorists like this. He could have called for energy independence by 2011 and stressed the need to change our energy source away from petroleum. JFK called for "a man on the moon in ten years". Bu$h could have done the same regarding energy but taking over Iraq was goal number one for Cheney and crew.

Being driven by oil money and with the maturity of a frat rat the pResidunce lashed out in a way that made Osama smile. 9/11 was a criminal event that was done by Saudi's. Like the London and France bombings we could have struck strategically and arrested the remaining perps and planners but nope...Bu$h Inc. had other plans. Plans that fell right into Osama's dreams.

Back to energy.
It's a combination of conservation such as raising the CAFE standard and changing the source. I am a big proponent of industrial hemp methanol/ethanol as what I call a "bridge fuel" to even cleaner sources and also biodiesel. Basically our farmers could grow our fuel and with the other 10's of thousands of products such as paper, building material, clothing, etc...our environment and economy would be reborn. But alas...there is still and imagery war against the '60's and pot plays right into the stereotyping.

I fear for our country and it's stubborn dependence on foriegn supply and trade debt.
We need to take care of America. Untited we stand.

More on hemp:

According to the Department of Energy, hemp as a biomass fuel producer requires the least specialized growing and processing procedures of all hemp products. The hydrocarbons in hemp can be processed into a wide range of biomass energy sources, from fuel pellets to liquid fuels and gas. Development of bio-fuels could significantly reduce our consumption of fossil fuels and nuclear power.
