You know what? I'm GLAD to be a teenager right now!
I really am. Sure, I may have my zits and odd baby fat here and there, but I love being a teenager at this day and age. Each day I wake up and think about how I can make this world better and better.

This will be looked back on as one of the most pivotal times of American history, and I will get to be a part of it. I will be able to march in rallies and hold up signs, I will be able to help the campaigns. I will be able to experience freedom in it's rawest form.

Yes, for every couple of nutjob Rethuglians, there's a political teen that reads the papers, watches the news, and knows their head from their ass. I don't know many in person, but DU has let me know many of those of whom I just described.

Every minuet of every day of every month, I think about the next time that I will be able to confront a Freeper. I think of replies to their low-browed insults. I'm not looking for a fight, but I will attack if they come onto me.

I understand that many people think that teenagers are nothing but hormonally driven, zit faced, fast-food job workin' loafers. But most of us really aren't. We're good people. I know I may not be the most remarkable person around this site, but I do know that I make a difference with each post.

What am I saying?

Don't worry about America's teens too much. Look at it from our person. Sure, our environment is getting screwed, and the working man is doing too much or too little work, but I know that some of us look foreword to making better. We want to make a big difference, we want to be remembered. Yes, still care for us, still be looking out. But don't fret too much.

We're here.

We're okay.

All I've gotta say is that America's teens are ready for this fight, no matter how long or how hard it is. Look at it. Who's most likely to hack into the Faux news network?

So, fight as hard as you all can, but leave some for us.

This may seem like a strange post, but anyone my age will understand what I'm sayin'.

You know what I'm sayin'?

16. Back 40 years or so ago
The hippies said that about anyone who was over 30. The over 30s were seen (and rightly so for the most part) as the establishment and all the corruption it stood for.

3. Yeah, I know what you're saying.
It's been a long time, but I can remember having that sense of having the power to affect things and a lot of optimism, pretty much because years later I realized I had lost it. You can get a good amount of it back later in life too, but it's a lot easier to have when you're young and you don't have as many responsibilities and can spend more time thinking about the world around you and what you want to do in it.

good for you you teen. i like your attitude. and i am not overly concerned with our youth, you are our future.

My heart and spirit are with the protesters, but sometimes my legs won't march as far as I'd like. This is a beautiful post, by a beautiful young person, who is, indeed, one of the reasons I have hope for the future. I console myself with the knowledge that I can still donate to causes, write letters, and educate everyone I am able to, though.

45. My legs aren't what they used to be either. Used to walk in the
Aids Walk and Breast Cancer walk, but not anymore; can barely make it to the kitchen now without wheezing, but, like you, my heart is there and my hope lies with the young people to stand up and fight like we did. I also write checks - way too many these days - to donate, and I talk a blue streak. So much so that I think when people approach me they whisper to each other "don't bring up politics, whatever you do". ha Getting old ain't for sissies.

44. True
Look at the 60's. Those were badtimes too. I've seen plenty of docs on the 60's and all the youth of that day found someways to cope and to still be teenagers and happy and live their lives. I'm sure teenagers of today do the same thing. It is a scary time to live in but as the old song goes: we shall overcome. :)

30. Don't worry
Some of us old farts have young hearts.
Hell I'm turning forty and I got a big blue Mohawk and look goth and twenty years younger. Go figure. I was goth before there was goth..but anyways my teen years were the 80's. I had plenty to piss me off and fight about back then. This is the Era when punx where not scared to punch a cop.Raygun was in office ,and The PMRC(Parents Music Resource Center)..(ironic to see Dem's talking about gore when it was his wife tipper who is responsible for those silly " WARNING EXPLICIT LANGUAGE " warning labels on CD's. Gore in the 80's was seen as a wannabe uptight rethuglican.Parents were freaking out about "heavy metal" and SATAN lyrics and the Eeeevuuul of 2 live Crew. In My early twenties years there was stuff going on like"Hands across America", concerts to help people starving in Ethiopia. But there was also local action and people speaking out against republicans. There was the first Gay Pride too.

I think when activism is cloaked by prosperity there is this assumption there was nothing to fight, but there WAS. Alot of the Bush admin are recycles from Nixon and Raygun. It's obvious to me we fight the same monster through the years,I just hope the old sick rethug mindset that we have fought for generations finally dies off when these reagan/nixon old fart degenerates die.
