One word I will never use again in conjunction with any candidate
Edited on Sat Nov-05-05 11:42 PM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
"Electability" or "Electable"

Do NOT EVER use this word in any political discussion you have with yourself or others. Do not worry if a candidate is electable. If you want to vote for them and you are a reasonable, informed person , than others will as well. If you use this word you are a whore. You will sell your vote for its merchandisable value.

1. I agree
That's one of many reasons why I'll vote for Kerry in 2008: he's the candidate I genuinely believe in, whether or not people think he's the most electable.

2. I volunteered for Kucinich
Edited on Sat Nov-05-05 11:49 PM by JJackFlash
Then I realized he was completely unelectable and switched to General Clark.
You can vote for who you like in the primaries, but when it comes to the General Election, electability is something to worry about - America is too precious to fool around and not be hard-headed and realistic about beating the repugs.

6. In hindsight Kucinich was right on almost every issue
If you had hung in with him, maybe time and exposure would have won over others. I also think the primaries are especially when you can follow your heart and your heart was on the money with Kucinich. Now, was I Kucinich follower? No. Kucinich was almost like the same novelty act that Sharpton was during the debates - "and for fun we have these two guys who actually are completely comfortable with themselves and know exactly how they feel on the issues - are we going to nominate them? Hell no! But folks give it up for Dennis Kucinich and Al Sharpton who are giving us our nod at Keepin' It Real in today's Democratic debates."

My BS meter will give no quarter in the next elections. I will NOT give a shit about electability!!!!

3. word.
"You will sell your vote for its merchandisable value."

Or what's worse, you'll sell it for no value, as the guy you like would have been a better candidate in MOST people's eyes. Its intellectual arrogant and stupid to think you know what other people think well enough to determine somebodies "electibility" beyond your own sound judgement of their merits.

5. Tell the corporate owned media! They are the ones who tell us
Liberals which of our candidates are 'electable' or not, and sadly, too many of us listen to them. Does not matter whom I talk too, if they listen to the media whores, nothing I can say will change their minds.

7. Good point
I don't think we should buy into other people's expectations and rumors. Throwing around words like that only turns it into some dumb popularity contest, instead of a chance to delve into what the candidate thinks and wants to do. We've seen people rise up in a campaign from out of nowhere and make a big impact, so it can be done. I'm so tired of favorites being picked early on.

8. If you don't think electability is an issue, who's the fool?
Edited on Sun Nov-06-05 12:00 AM by Catch22Dem
I don't like it, but I'm not dumb enough to believe enough voters vote on principle alone. I'm afraid that's the grim reality of the American political arena.

ON EDIT: Oh, and don't call me a whore.

9. Most people don't even know what the issues are
They vote based on image and charisma
