Is violence in Paris, Argentina indicative of what U.S. will face?
Although the reasons differ, the underlying cause is the same: Poor, disenfranchised people lashing out at the system that is perpetuating the misery and hardship they face in their daily lives.

We've already seen evidence of it, most recently in New Orleans. People often wonder why residents would destroy their own community. But, I think it's because they don't believe they are part of any community.

In France, writings on the wall said:
“Civil war is declared. There will no doubt be deaths. Unfortunately, we have to prepare,” said a posting signed “Rania.”
“We are going to destroy everything. Rest in peace, guys,” wrote “Saint Denis.”

So, do you think the same thing could happen in the U.S. if leaders continue to pursue the current agenda? How soon?

1. I too have been thinking along these lines, how long can people take
the illegal immigrants in this country keeping them away from the promises of their national birth in a country which is ignoring them in favor of these same non-natives ? We are about to follow in these shoes if some things do not get straighten out around here. Like sending all illegals home to their own countries. We had better do it real soon too. Native Americans without jobs or money are getting pretty hot here as well.........

3. Care to clarify your statement?
How are illegals keeping people away from this country's promise?

How is the government favoring them over nationals?

I would really like to understand your points, so please take me through it with some detail.

2. We had riots here in L.A. under the first Bush regime.
Three terms of Republican presidents is all it took to raise racial and economic tension to the level that very poor people felt they had nothing to lose.

If Bush starts that guest worker program he is threatening, would-be immigrants will come here only to be treated like third class citizens with no rights and no hope of ever becoming full-fledged Americans. We will end up like France. It is my understanding that the people who are revolting in Paris are people who originally came to France as guest workers and/or their children.

The only thing that will save us is Democratic victories in 2006 and beyond.

10. Some of the worst race riots this country has seen were during
Truman and Johnson's adminstration and they were Democrats.

12. I'm not talking about racial riots
It's more of an uprising of the proletariat, regardless of color.

17. True, but the fundamental issues even under those
administrations were the same as in France today: masses of extremely poor, second-. third-class people living in poor conditions and having no way out.

5. It's sad, but it's coming ....
... I think you need a precipitating event to drive people over the edge, like Rodney King or a bad Hurricane, but there's too many stresses on the poor.

It sucks, man.

You know - we STILL don't have a believable death toll from Katrina.

13. No
Can you point out to me where I said this or describe how you came up with that idea?

I'm talking about parallels in socio-economic conditions and what possibilities exist.

15. Who wants rioting? We should be able to solve problems without
resorting to riots or war. I don't want either.

would've went on w/o riots? Without people in the streets raising hell it's perceived as complacency. It gets attention. I don't advocate it, but it has it's place.

14. The poor in France have it better than the poor in the US. The difference
is that the people in France and Argentina seem to recognize the fact that they're being screwed over. They both have something resembling a free press as well, unlike us.

19. LIKE HELL! people in New Orleans did NOT "destroy their community"!
http://www.azstarnet.com/sn/printDS/95370

When Hurricane Katrina struck, New Orleans succumbed to anarchy as marauding hordes of armed thugs hijacked cars, shot at helicopters, and killed police officers, while hundreds of bodies floated in shark-infested waters.

Or so the stories went.

Violent gangs roamed the Superdome, raping little children, while in the Convention Center 30 to 40 bodies piled up in a freezer.

It never happened.

Yet over five days starting Aug. 29, stories of unspeakable horror were reported around the world, by broadcast and cable TV, the British Broadcasting Corp., The Associated Press, Reuters, Web sites, and many newspapers.

Bullshit! The people of New Orleans did NOT destroy their city. That is false. Please refrain from spreading this slander!

20. Thank you!
The people of NO rallied together to save themselves and their neighbors. It was Bush/Cheney who destroyed their community.
