House Speaker Rep. Dennis Hasert Caught in Lobbyist Abramoff's Scandal?

House Speaker Rep. Dennis Hasert Caught in Lobbyist Abranoff's Scandal?

In June 2003, House Speaker Dennis Hastert sent a letter to Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton urging her to act in favor of clients of the scandal-plagued lobbyist Jack Abramoff. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported yesterday that investigators believe that Abramoff and his staff provided the congressmen with the letter's text.

Three other representatives, including former House Majority leader Tom DeLay and the current majority leader Roy Blunt, co-signed the letter. Both DeLay and Blunt have close ties to Abramoff and have received thousands of dollars from his clients.

The letter endorsed a view of gambling law that would block the Jena Band of Choctaw Indians from opening a casino nearby one owned by the Coushattas, an Abramoff client.

In September 2004, the Washington Post quoted V. Heather Sibbison, a lobbyist at the time for the Jena Band: "I have never seen a letter like that before. It was incredibly unusual for that group of people, who do not normally weigh in on Indian issues, to express such a strong opinion about a particular project not in any of their home states."

12. LOL! It means we have a shot at getting our rightful place in the
WH, seeing as how we won the last two Presidential elections.

24. Well, the only one in line to go to the White House before 2006 elections.
is Dem Secretary of Transportation Norm Mineta who used to be my Bay area Congressman. But there's quite a few people ahead of him on the list that would have to go down in flames. Extremely doubtful that all would go at once... More likely we'd get Nancy Pelosi in as pres after 2006 elections if the impeachments go through then, who would be third in line if the Dems retake the House (and probably the Senate too, if the impeachments are to go through with convictions).

3. Last paragraph
Accoring to FEC reports, since 1999 Hastert has taken $49,000 from American Indian tribes while they were Jack Abramoff's clients. On June 3, 2003, Hasteret held a fundraiser at Signatures, a Washington restaurant owned by Abramoff. He did not pay for the space until more than two years later, when Business Week began an in-depth investigation into use of Signatures.

Nothing would please me, and many other progs around here, more than an opportunity to remove this tumor as our Rep.
His involvement in this will also help shine a light on how these people do business in general.

17. Hastert: Tip of The Iceberg
Don't forget the Vanity Fair Article of September 2005: Hastert accepting bribe from the American Turkish Council; with members involved with AIPAC, Perle & Feith (International Advisors Inc., IAI).

In September 2005, CREW filed an investigation request with FEC, requesting an audit of his donations received from foreign entities.

Here is the link to the article:

I guess, sooner, or, later, the truth comes out; cheers.

18. I remember seeing that article and thinking
that I didn't know there were so many Turkish constituents here in the 14th. Hastert seems to want to help out anyone who slips him an envelope. Why are there schools in his district that keep running out of money?

20. Drip, drip, drip...
The tap is dripping faster every day....maybe it seems slow at times, but that sink is filling up fast.... :eyes:

I was just about to post about the same thing...I kept thinking about Sibel Edmonds recently and that at some point the truth is going to be coming out from what she has known for a long time too....

Here's to the truth being told to the American Citizens... :toast:

22. IAI, Plame,
What do Edelman, Grossman, Perle, and Feith have in common? Turkey. Grossman (his name on the document sent to the White House from the State Dep. with Plame's name): Former US Ambassador to Turkey; Perle & Feith (International Advisors Inc.; IAI; Turkey; nuclear black-market); Edelman: Former Turkish Ambassador.

Guess where Plame met Wilson? The American Turkish Council, ATC, in 1990s; while she was undercover!

Cheers

23. Hey, let's not get too broad-brushed here...
I lived in Turkey growing up for 5 years when my Dad worked over there too with USAID. As did Sibel Edmonds when she was a kid. There are definitely some bastards over there, but there's some good people, both Turkish and Americans who worked over there too.

And there is a reason that Doner Kebab (Turkish Gyro) outsells much of America's fast food in Germany too. It's damn good food!

25. Incomplete Republican culture of corruption list
It just became even more incomplete. Interestly, it alrady had Hastert for something else.

http://www.waynemadsenreport.com/gopscorecard.htm

We now have major scandals involving all of the top Republican leadership: Bush, Cheney, Frist, Hastert, and DeLay. When will the rank and file Republicans say enough is enough and stop supporting these crooks.
