More Sleaze and Dishonesty In Ohio
For those of you not aware Ohio Issues 2-5 are all geared to clean up Ohio’s election system. Just a brief outline of the issues and then I’ll get to the point.

Issue 2 – Makes voting easier by allowing early voting by mail.
Issue 3 – Help stops influence of big money in elections by reducing campaign contributions.
Issue 4 – Stop politicians from drawing their own legislative districts.

Issue 5- makes it impossible for Blackwell to be in charge of Ohio elections and run Bush’s campaign.

From the Columbus Dispatch Nov 4th:
Ad warns of losing ‘family values’

Opponents of four statewide ballot issues are distributing a harshly worded flier to churches calling backers of the issues "radical anti-family activists,’’ in a move reminiscent of last year’s Republican appeal to "values voters.’’

Supporters complained yesterday that the ad is a distortion and part of a "disgraceful campaign of sleaze and dishonesty.’’

The church-bulletin-size ad, which shows a pregnant woman and two smiling families, says state Issues 2-5 are backed by "the same people who took prayer out of our public schools, fought the defense of marriage act last year and have attempted to legalize drugs.’’

Among other things, the ad says the issues would "dilute the power of pro-life supporters to elect pro-life candidates who share our values’’ and "if we let them win, the impact could be a devastating setback for our traditional family values.’’

What!!!&%$$%@
We have got to figure out a way to fight these people!!

1. holy cow!
WTF?! What's sad is most people who would fall for that will probably not even bother to find out what the actual issues up for vote are.

I'm still trying to find out how election reform is anti-family.

ugh. This sickens me.

3. Sure they will. That is what is wrong today. Some
people will believe anything and jump on the bandwagon. That is why they are targeting churches.

10. Oh of course
This is why I highly believe that the republicans will never do away with Roe V Wade and do nothing about gay marraige. This way they can use these issues to pull them in and blame the mean old liberals. :eyes:

4. Don't count on it...
Many people just listen to the adds on TV. I have a few coworkers who have just tuned to our side. They asked me about these same state issue 2-5 yesterday. Quote: "How should we vote on issues 2-5? We want to vote No right? We don't understand the issues one add say to vote no, and one says to vote yes."

I explained the issues the best I could from memory. Latter I gave them a copy of the ballet language and told them not to listen to the adds. I voiced my opinion on the issues and told them that they should learn think for them selves for a change!

11. Wow
Nice. I think education is always the key instead of just voting for someone because they claim to be a Christian like you. For those Christians who do that I always remind them how even in the Bible in Proverbs King Solomon encourages independent thinking and not just blindly following someone. Looks like a lot of them forgot about that one. And what Jesus said about false prophets.

Is there a link for this?
I'd like to put it in the "daily thread" in Election Reform.

The article isn't very long.
What are the rules for posting the entire article?

5. To be honest with you....
I don't really want to support issue 3. It really stifles PAC money which is a good thing for Democrats.

The current assault on "Reform Ohio Now" vote Yes on Issues @,#,$, and 5 are none other than the Swift-Boat gang.

They get away with the obnoxious lies and know just where to spew it too..

14. I have doubts about supporting issue 3 as well...
But I think I'm going to vote for it anayway. Make it a packaged deal. Right now Ohio allows some of the highest contributions in the country. It will limit the amounts to 2,000 for state wide candidates.

6. The ads against these issues are so dishonest
"issue two says it will stop corporate donations, but what it really does is allow big unions to make unlimited contributions, while preventing your voice to be heard"

I'm paraphrasing here, but that's pretty close.

What a bunch of crap.

7. FWIW, I don't think those issues are straightforward.
independent of the ad campaign, I've read those issues, and I think they're trojan horses, myself. If I understand them correctly....

Issue 3, for example, does not add much NEW restrictions on big money and corporations, BUT increases restrictions on grass roots donations. However, this is being billed as restricting big money influence, so I'm confused why its being marketed that way.

Issue 4 is purportedly to stop gerrymandering for political gain, but in fact, if you read how the commission is decided, two people are appointed by a politician, and then those appointees select the rest of the 9 person committee. How this is better is beyond me. It has just as much potential for abuse as the present system.

my point is, those issues (all of which are proposed by the same org) are being sold as one thing, but if you get down to the finer points, don't really seem to be doing that.

12. I saw both ads and
ours is much more convincing. The opponents ad looks like tin foil conspiracy nuts , they look ridiculous and most people can see through the slime of an ad like that. What I worry about is what the preachers are telling their flock? That can be a death sentence in religous right wing areas of Ohio. Luckily I live in the tri state East cental area and its mostly Dem. Labor Dems will carry this area.

their minds against fair elections. Thats too bad. Looks like theyll continue to steal our elections because some have drank the kool aid.

17. Reform Ohio Now needs people to make phone calls this weekend !
I signed up this morning and just got my list of 25 Ohioans to call and encourage to go vote in favor of Issues 2, 3, 4, 5. You can be from anywhere and make these calls - you just have to be willing to take the time.

From the Reform Ohio Now website:

Make calls to Ohio voters about Issue 2, 3, 4 & 5!

This coming Tuesday, November 8, Ohio voters will go to the polls to decide on a historic series of election reforms. Even if you can't make it to one of our target counties, we definitely need your help getting out the vote. Be a part of our virtual phonebank!

Our opposition is spending millions on a TV smear campaign filled with misinformation, but with the help each and every volunteer like you, we can win this vote. Can you make a few calls to Ohio voters?

We're asking everyone to commit to making 25 calls between Saturday and Monday. No experience necessary! It couldn't be simpler:

* A RON staffmember will email you your call list and call script

* You'll be calling to urge people to vote YES on Issues 2, 3, 4 & 5--your call script will tell you exactly what to say

* Each call will average less than 5 minutes

* You can make your calls anytime between Saturday morning and Monday evening

18. Want more Ohio GOP Sleaze? They're leadership is into bar brawls!
Butler County GOP Officials Investigated in Bar Fight - DU Ohio Forum

Long story short? High-ranking Butler County Republican Party officials go to Putter's in West Chester, get liquored up, destroy property, make sexual comments, threaten the bartender with a pool cue before assaulting him with a chair, and then leave the scene of the crime, speeding off in a Silver (or Gold?) Hummer.
