It just has to be mobilized. Conservatives are the minority and we are being ruled by a radical, out of the mainstream party that is forcing it's views on progressive/centrist majority.

1. I agree.
People keep forgetting how close the election was.

IMO Kerry just wasn't the right man to bridge the gap. Next time.

2. so.....
we get all the people who are socially moderate and fiscally conservative to not vote for the religious-wingnut republicans and 'big gov't'-corporatist democrats and get 470 independants to run in all the congressional and senatorial races (standing aside for the likes of conyers and the cbc, kucinich and wassermanschultz, ron paul, and a few others)

4. I think the original poster was right....There IS a centrist-progressive
majority in the country. They spoke in 2000 but the supreme court and the GOP activist assholes in Florida hijacked a clear victory. That majority is somewhat gullible and was swift-boated in2004 but I hope we can avoid that in 2006 aand 2008.

I think people are finally starting to see these miserable bastards for exactly what they are.

5. I think their is also a conservative/centrist majority.
It depends on the issues. The conservatives use national security and wedge issues to make their majority the one that shows up on election day, especially in congressional elections.

The centrists agree with us on most issues, but those are not as important to them as the few right wing issues they agree with--at least not after the right wing propaganda and corporate media are through with them.

6. Good point, amBushed. I like what you say about the fact...
that they can agree with us about many issues but, if the issues that they get emotional about are issues that are conservative, they're going to vote for conservatives. (I hope that I correctly summarized what you said.)

The question is "How do we get them emotional about our issues so that they show up on election day to defend our values?"
