Daily Kos: DeLay Aide's Memo Betrays The Playbook
Edited on Fri Nov-04-05 10:00 AM by Mark E. Smith
by Virginia Dem

How anybody could vote Republican until they do a full fumigation to get rid of DeLay and Co. is beyond me. Check out what (indicted) DeLay aide Mike Scanlon says here:

"The wackos get their information through the Christian right, Christian radio, mail, the internet and telephone trees," Scanlon wrote in the memo, which was read into the public record at a hearing of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. "Simply put, we want to bring out the wackos to vote against something and make sure the rest of the public lets the whole thing slip past them."

The article explains the strategy we've come to know all too well:

Scanlon confessed the source code of recent Republican electoral victories: target religious conservatives, distract everyone else, and then railroad through complex initiatives.

Well, here's their plan finally in black and white. This should piss off the wackos. It should anger the public. We're already fuming. If this quote is run as a DNC ad in every district in the country, we win both chambers in a landslide.

3. Christian politico Ralph Reed is entangled in the Delay/Abramoff web
I have made sure to bring up with my Repub relatives from Georgia the way Christian groups are being manipulated and Ralph Reed's involvement in the corrupt casino money laundering efforts.

I don't have much hope though since these relatives are not only brainwashed and oblivious to news unless it comes from their church or Christian radio station, but they also have that unfortunate and very un-Christian attitude of many wealthy privileged people who don't believe in paying taxes or government efforts to help and ensure rights and privileges to others who are less fortunate.

11. Seriously, was he being used? Yeah, you bet. And you know how you
can tell? From all the lying and covering up he's been doing.

Being used. That was cute.

16. Abramoff was playing multiple sides against each other
Edited on Fri Nov-04-05 04:37 PM by centristo
and part of that was using conservative Christians to ban gambling for the benefit of the tribe Abramoff was representing. It wasn't immediately clear who he was playing for suckers and who was "in" on it.

But then I read this:

"Reed has acknowledged receiving $4 million from Abramoff and Scanlon to run anti-gambling campaigns in the South. Reed has said he did not know where the funds were coming from, but e-mails suggest that he was aware that some of the money he was getting came from the casino-rich Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/06/22/AR2005062200921_pf.html

Yeah, he wasn't being used, he was doing the using. Selling out his own support group for political and monetary gain. What a piece of ass garbage.

14. Everyone should take time out from putting food on their family
To get an inside look at the Real Right. Here's an arbitrary snippet from page 7 of the emails regarding getting some casino bidness done:

So far, only liberal Dem (name blanked) say's he's voting, "yes." We'll send him 100 "patch-throughs" from his North LA Baptist (word illegible) and see what he says tomorrow. ... The phone banks filled up every voice mail we could find over the weekend and they're back on the job today. Phone bank workers report people saying, "Oh yes, I got the post card on that today." Senator Max Malone, a Harrah's opponent and probable dockside opponent told me "I received my call from Jerry Falwell."

http://www.chris-floyd.com/jack/

Using churches for bidness. Faking a popular movement. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the phone banks aren't in India. The Real Right.

I am completely unshocked.

However, I'm surprised they haven't already replaced the Federal Reserve Chairman with a Ouija board.

edit- Oh man, the comments on Kos are amazing today. We're on scandal overload; The Dems will walk away from this, and repubs will be struggling for years to come;

We've only just begun to fight. These evil republican beings should be punished all the way to Hades.

I hope I don't piss of any of our religous friends here but if they bought into something like THAT so wholeheartedly they will buy into anything.

And what about all those *-bathed-in-heavenly-light photos -- who came up with that strategy?

18. Thing is, they know they're wackos, and they're proud of it.
And the clueless people know they're clueless, and they're too apathetic to pay attention.

However, it's good to know the depth of the festering well of cynicism.
