1. Accountability
Just like what Bush ran on in 2000 but seriously. When Dean was on CNN earlier on Kagyn's show he laid it out really well.

11. Iraq--Right now, Everything is Iraq. Nothing else matters.
We can talk about Katrina, and the Delay scandal, and many other issues, also. But what's driving *'s downfall in the polls is Iraq. That's should be Numero Uno on the hit parade.

Any candidate who says we should stay in Iraq, should increase troops in Iraq, or in any way supports even a smidgeon of the Repug Iraq policy is going to lose, no matter what party they're in.

13. They are all good themes, but are any of them as compelling as "oh my god
gays might be able to get married if that guy wins" or "oh my god we're surrounded by terrorists - better stick with the party in charge" or "oh my god, that guy just wants to tax us until we have nothing left."

17. Class warfare and the looting of our National Treasures…
Edited on Fri Nov-04-05 01:06 AM by countmyvote4real
That treasure includes the 2000+ lives of American military that lost their lives defending a lie that propelled US into the first preemptive war and invasion of another country in our country’s history.

It also includes billions of dollars wasted on this lie while the GOP passes laws that give tax breaks to wealthy individuals and corporations. The only people that are asked to sacrifice anything are the poor and middle classes with rising interest rates, rising gas prices that affect everything we need to subsist and the penalties of the bankruptcy bill that ensure that we fail further into economic submission.

Bushco* and the GOP are the real terrorists that threaten our Democracy. That part probably won’t play well in the heartland. Nobody likes to be accused of being unpatriotic, but I’m pretty damn well tired of it being used on me for my opposition to this war at the outset.

23. I Hate to Imitate the "Blankers"
Edited on Fri Nov-04-05 08:32 AM by maxrandb
but I think the Dems need to come up with our own Contract for America. Maybe call it the "Promise to Save America" and emphasize the point that, unlike the Repukes, we will actually do what is promised in our pledge.

It's been 11 years since the C for A, and could someone please tell me of anything the Repukes promised in that contract that they have actually delivered on??

I say you keep it simple, easy to understand, and then you actually follow through with it. Some ideas:

- Promise to return to fiscal discipline and "pay as you go" budget policies. Return the marginal tax rate on the wealthiest Americans to the pre-Bush levels, and CUT PAYROLL AND INCOME TAXES FOR THE MIDDLE AND LOWER-CLASS.

- Within 100 days, pass legislation to stop corporate donations to political parties, or candidates. Pledge to confirm only judges that will follow the Constitution and recognize that a corporation is not a person, and does not have the same rights as a person.

- Fore go any congressional or staff pay-raises until the budget is balanced. Reign is disgusting CEO pay, and hold companies and individuals accountable for outsourcing jobs. A corporate CEO should not be rewarded for sending thousands of American jobs overseas.

- Fully fund head start and public education. Demand that excessive corporate profits, or oil company profits either be re-invested in R and D, or returned to the American people.

- Fund and implement the complete and total renovation of America's crumbling infrastructure. The tragedy in LA, MS, and AL should result in the most extensive public work program since the Great Depression.

- National Health Care. (even corporations are realizing that they can not survive if the cost of employee health care continues to rise) The answer should not be to sacrifice peoples health. It should be to reform health care.

- Promise to spend at least 75% of each year in your home state and district addressing the problems, needs and concerns of the people that sent you to DC.

Those are just of few OMHO.
