WHY all of a sudden is "bird flu" such a threat?

Seems to me that in the 90's, many of us parents were trembling about whether there would be a horrible gun massacre at our kids' schools. The teachers were worried, too. (Yes, I know there actually WERE horrible incidents... what I'm wondering is why they dominated the news, whereas they don't, today. Does this mean there aren't any more such incidents--or does it mean no one is currently using them for propaganda purposes?)

Then we had to worry about anthrax. Remember that? No one's worrying about that any more.

And of course we must all worry about "terrorism". Sure, the images of 9/11 are beyond horrible, but who made it happen? No one has ever convincingly answered that question.

We are being played, and we have been played for a very long time.

Humorously, the lying Bush/Cheney administration invoked the spectre of a "mushroom cloud" when it played us to get support or at least complacency about its long-planned invasion of Iraq. I say "humorously", because in the 60's, it was possibly someone else who played the mushroom cloud card. Someone put ads on TV with the picture of a little girl picking a daisy and then suddenly the whole world went up in flames. I used to think it was anti-war people who put that one out in the 60's, but now I wonder if it wasn't just the establishment who had a vested interest in keeping us all afraid under the "Cold War". This establishment consisted of the forerunners of Cheney-Rumsfeld-Perle-etc.

During the Ford administration, there was this thing called "The Committee On The Clear And Present Danger". It was a product of what are now called neocons. It was designed to keep the hype about the Cold War going. Widespread fear of "our enemies" is always good for the huge defense industry--the "military industrial complex", if you will.

get us into a war, I figured that was a given even while he was campaigning and before he was 'elected'. I am a strong MIHOPer and everything he has done since, has convinced me, he will do whatever it takes to retain power. His statement on 12/18/00 that it would be easier if this were a dictatorship so long as he were the dictator, solidified my belief that he would do whatever it took to retain power. Not to mention the fact that I completely believe he stole the 2000 election, and the '04 election, and I believe he and his underlings or whatever made 9/11 happen. I believe the current republican party with GW at the helm is pure evil.

They got their power with greed (tax-cuts, breaking campaign finance law and leveraging the money from big corporations). They'll use greed of individuals to keep their power. The only way it will be broken is if they try to grab too much, and it's looking like that is happening.

I think you are right about the fascists releasing some type of flu on us - they will do anything to stay in power.
