You wouldn't want DeLay to be flying around on some old commercial airliner, now would you?

Travel

Glancing through Political Money Line it seems that certain shows - Meet the Press seems to be a big offender - regularly covers travel expenses, though I haven't yet found anything close to Hot Tub Tom's 14 grand of fun. I also haven't found anyone else getting money from Fox News, though that doesn't mean it isn't there.

19. He declared it on a form- there's a PDF at the link
I tried to copy it, but got all jammed up. (PDF's and I don't get along well)

The form looks to be one he submitted to some congressional office declaring the income. If it were illegal, I doubt even he'd be so brazen.

But it LOOKS horrible! Would Reid take that kind of money from Air America? Boxer was on The Daily Show- I bet she didn't get greased.

10. Just understand it's not PAYING DeLay in actual cash.
It's providing a trip with the cash value of $14,000 minus a buck and change.

I can see how people could mistake this for a handover of money, but that's not what happened. It's also not much of a mitigating factor.

I mean uh, what is the news value in this? Or rather is it making the news through making sure DeLay is in a position to do something newsworthy through Fox News' budget?

Why isn't First Class on a commercial liner good enough for him? Seriously. Is he that afraid of coming in touch with the masses that first class is not even good enough for him?

Edited on Thu Nov-03-05 10:41 PM by ocelot
on an airplane for 3 hours? Especially when you have to assume he'd be the sort of guy who'd hog the arm rest the whole time? And he'd hassle the flight attendants and bitch about the flight being late and blame the airline for the weather. If he took a private jet, at least some other poor, unsuspecting passenger didn't have to sit next to him.

Or more likely, funneled it to one of his launderers.
At the very least, the amount is clearly excessive.

Gee, wouldn't it be great if everybody who was indicted got a corporate jet to plead their case to the American people. Over and over and over. This is just bullshit. I truly had no idea the media paid for politicians to appear on their shows.

compared to legit news services. Im sure the low paid whacko commentators wont mind that Delay was given all that money for a 200 dollar trip. I mean, its an honor to work in this great country after all. They should be happy to work for peanuts. hehe

39. Sorry Kids...No Fire Here...Happens All The Time
Flying for 14Gs? They better have had first class with a lap dance and other "ammenities"...and blame the viewers and advertisers of Faux who paid that money.

News shows and the cable channels generally make special transportation arrangements to make sure their guests are not only on the show, but in the studio at the right time. Most times this means getting them to a local studio and satellite the video...but surely Mike Wallace's kid wanted to gaze into the Bugman's eyes and Roger Ailes wrote the check.

Congressional rules would have been violated if Faux paid this fukstick to appear or had made a payment to his defense fund without disclosing it.

This means nothing...now if you want DeLay trips that DO mean something, let's discuss his trips to Scotland with Mr. Abramoff, Scanlon and others...
