Need help on name of bill
On a non-political board, we've started a political thread-and folks are interested in the number of the bill before the House that would cut out home mortgages as tax breaks, cut funding for foster care, child support enforcement, Medicare/Medicaid, etc. Can anyone help me? I tried searching for this, but couldn't find a thread with the information (probably because I hadn't used search before).

Thanks in advance. I think there are quite a few people who are ready to write/call their reps about this.

1. I've been hearing it mentioned on C-Span
Scary and insane crap. Tax cuts for millionaires, balanced by eliminating long-standing deductions for everybody else, especially the poor. Swine.

2. It sounds like the Budget Reconciliation Act
It is now in front of the Senate. Not sure it has passed in front of the house yet.

3. I don't think it's an actual bill yet
it's a "Tax Panel" that is recommending all this

also, I don't know if these jokers just make the decisions for us, and that's it, or if we get any input at all.

4. You may be thinking of the Tax Reform Panel final report. Here's a link:
http://taxreformpanel.gov/

I don't think it's a bill yet. The recommendations were discussed on Thom Hartmann earlier this week.

Some of the cuts you mentioned may be on the table in the "Deficit Reduction Act" being debated now.

Yay, a whole new bunch of activists as a result of yet another assault on the middle class!

5. There are a few DU threads discussing it. Here's how I used 'search':
Edited on Thu Nov-03-05 04:18 PM by satya
Keywords:
mortgage interest deduction tax reform
(I use several words to limit my results)

Search logic: AND

If applicable, recursively search...: YES

Search which fields: SUBJECT AND MESSAGE

Search how many days in the past: LAST ONE WEEK
(or I may start with LAST 24 HOURS or LAST 3 DAYS to see how many hits I get)

Happy hunting!

Edited to fix typos

6. Just like Reagan
who cut off most deductions in the 80s. Used to be credit card interest was deductible. All we were left with was deductions for our kids, and mortgage interest. Now they want to take that from us too.

7. That's what I tell my pals who vote GOP because of taxes.
The GOP is going to leave you with less in your pocket than the Dems ever would. They may not "raise taxes", but their economic policies ALWAYS result in transferring wealth from the people to the corporations (and the elite shareholders in those corps).

We can't let them get away with this.
