Tweety: VP is very much a part of this
From Tweety to the Philadelphia News
Discussion at Atrios

"So, having pulled this masterful move of moving the undecided middle into the war, they then became very sensitive to the charge by Joseph Wilson that they had done the very thing, pushed the nuclear button and then covered up any threat to that nuclear button, and Wilson was that threat, and then, going volcanic against anybody including me, who dared to say, 'Wait a minute, there is a pattern here of how we got into the war, and how they promoted the nuclear case and how they protected the nuclear case against Wilson.'

"They didn't like me doing that. I know that a number of administration officials were screaming at my network at all levels about me raising this issue, the very points I've just made. They don't like hearing it, Libby is in trouble now because he doesn't like hearing it, the vice president is very much a part of this, and the answer to your question is that you are on the right trail, Michael."

1. Tweety is still a douche bag.
His contempt for the Dems is palpable. The corruption of this administration is so rampant, yet he meanders into the cosmic revelation above.

5. Tweety is horrible towards Dems, so how is it that...
... his first job was as a speechwriter for Jimmy Carter.

This creates such cognitive dissonance in my poor brain.

21. True, but even a douche bag is useful a couple times a month or so
Edited on Thu Nov-03-05 03:28 PM by PurityOfEssence
He's mean and ruthlessly arrogant. It makes no sense that he's ever allied himself with a Carter or even Tip. Like most conservatives, he revels in the pain of others, and the jokes he tells are derived from ridicule or the enjoyment of other peoples' misfortune.

With virtually every breath, his tactics are to show himself superior to others and sustain his petty myth of being a no-spin warrior; one can easily compare him with O'Reilly, because their conceit is the same: "I'm the only honest voice." Having compared him to O'Reilly, though, one sees that he's nowhere near the black-hearted villainy of REAL scoundrels, but having done so one needs to run from the present observation lest one starts to like the prick.

Still, whether it's to sit on the fence or just to be superior to EVERYONE, he does hammer the reactionaries in very public ways from time to time, so, douche bag though he is, he's still handy to have tucked away under the sink for occasional use.

2. Did you hear Tweety this morning?

He was talking about the Libby indictment.

At the end of his discussion with a guest, he thought he was off mike and off camera.

He had a scared expression on his face and he said to someone(camera man, studio person?)..."the problem is" and then they cut it right away.

What is the problem? Does anyone have that video?

3. do you think this is why we have such a complient press?
"They didn't like me doing that. I know that a number of administration officials were screaming at my network at all levels about me raising this issue, the very points I've just made. They don't like hearing it..."

administration officials call and scream at network execs every time they hear a story they don't like?

8. It is probably not just the networks that
sympathize with or are pressured by the neocon types, I believe they go higher up the food chain to the corporations that own the networks such as G.E. in this case. If I remember correctly there are only about five corporations that own 90% of the American MSM. This means you only have to influence a handful of powerful CEOs to shape what "American Journalism" tells the people regarding reality.

9. MSNBC spends more time on the Plame/Libby issue
than CNN. Wolfie is getting so darn boring and now he will be on even longer. What is with those 2 stations? GE owns MSNBC/NBC so I don't expect to get much info except how great our bushie is. Now it appears CNN has replaced NBC's bashing of dems. CNN has new president, right?

15. Atrios Story (also was on KOS earlier)
Edited on Thu Nov-03-05 03:18 PM by kpete
Look at:

Your Right to Know

Smerconish, who's one of our local Limbaughs here in Philadelphia (though more reasonable and independent usually), has an interesting column about his efforts to get Tweety to answer the question of whether Tim Russert ever told him about Scooter's complaint call.

It's interesting for a variety of reasons, but just go read the whole thing...

Unfortunately you have to sign up for the whole story with the Phildelphia paper, but Atrios has alot of snippets.

18. Matthews knows.
I think that a lot of DUers realize that. I like Chris, though I appreciate the frustration that many express. However, they should not underestimate the significance of his recent reporting on this case. The majority of citizens do not read DU, and are just finding out about the case. They would not be able to digest the information on DU -- that would be overwhelming -- but they are hearing and understanding Matthews. Recent polls show this to be the case. So I enjoy him saying things like if Libby goes to trial, Cheney can't tape his testimony ... it has to be live, in person.

22. Matthews has had the best Plamegate coverage on cable
well, maybe a tie w Olbermann, except Matthews has David Schuster's reports which have been exceptional.

Matthews frustrates the hell out of me sometimes. He is what he is - a conservative Democrat w foibles. He gets things wrong. But when corrected he can do a good job. But DU'ers who imagine he is only "mean" to Dems are mistaken. I have seen him slap down Bushbots time and time again.

20. Tweety's thought balloon: "which cock to suck...it's so confusing..."
Should I stay with the corporate thugs who control this country, or should I go with the groundswell of disgust? Should I stay with the murderers or should I try to aggrandize myself by being a blazing truthseeker? My wallet or my ego...it's all just so confusing.

It's funny now, isn't it? You can see many opportunistic charlatans making timid forays into outing the obvious ugliness of the conservatives. You can almost see the calculations on Howard Fineman's face as he tries to cover his tracks and maybe even sleaze into portraying himself as a champion of the truth.

Once the disgust wears off, it's all quite amusing.

Unfortunately, the disgust just doesn't seem to wear off.
