I am getting SICK of the media...
not saying "White" when the damn criminal is white! "Two escaped men.." on msnbc, last night on my local news, "Man robs and shoots a man eating lunch in his car". Not one word of his color. Sure they threw in a description of the car, but you damn better be sure that if he were black, they would have said that shit.

1. Really?
We have the opposite problem with our politically correct local news. They'll tell you what they guy was wearing, how tall, what color hair, but never ethnicity. Can't GO THERE!

2. The "opposite" would be...

if your media pointed out "white" criminals but not "black"...are you really suggesting that is the case? Look, I have no problem with pointing it out, the media is alerting the public, so a description helps. But the public should be told of the race of ALL of the criminals they are alerting us of, not just ethnic people. And as far as the "political correctness" fatigue people have, there would be no need for PC if there had not been any "racial incorrectness" for so much of our history. Same with gender, or any other quality that makes us different.

4. I think it has more to do with the larger population being the default.
I'm not defending the practice, but they think most viewers accept as given the person is white unless otherwise identified. I'm not sure they're entirely wrong.
But it make sense to find a different way to codify identifying information.

5. I say the coverage should be consistent....
either it mentions race when known or it doesn't, across the board.

6. Down here...
Down here they don't mention race on the news reports I watch. I know this because I actually noticed this the other day. It used to be they would tell you every detail. Now, they don't mention race.
