When discussing the president's low poll numbers they habitually attribute it to katrina, bad news in Iraq and otehr current issues.

YOU ARE MISSINBG THE POINT YET AGAIN!

While there is a segment of Americans who will swing one way or the otehr, based on the week's news, the number of people with an Unfavorable opinion of Bush includes approximately half of the country who have been PO'd at him since 2000, for much deeper reasons than a hurricane or a couple of aides with loose lips.

In other words, those poll numbers are not some ephemeral shift that can be fixed with a "makeover" or a fresh start. A majority of America is angry and scared and frustrated with the nation's current leadership in a fundamental way.

Stop trivializing it.
