"The Democrats have no ideas"
Have you noticed this same point being made by every media talking-head on the television. It's like all the journalists circulate their own talking points and we hear it 24/7. What is the deal? We have very crystal clear ideas and values!!!

1. If they say it enough times, it'll become true.
That's what they always do.

12. The common source is the RNC, which of course is run by the White House..
The RNC faxes and emails the media with talikng points constantly and the media just parrots the RNC.

14. Precisely.
That's the way they've been able to apply the marketing strategy of branding. If you associate the word "liberal" with enough negatives sooner or later it will stick - Ronald Reagan left us with that legacy.

6. Tehre is a simple way to answer that charge
"Of course we have ideas, but every time we're asked about our ideas, the talking heads who ask the question jump in and talk over us before we are ever allowed to answer!"

I watch C-Span...and everyday the Dems are throwing out Amendments and Proposals....but the Repugs just shut them down and they never come to the table.

Please DON'T CALL THEM THE "MSM." Call them what they are: The Corporate Media.

Great idea, by the way. That thread is awesome.

8. Hmmmmm
"The Democrats have no ideas." is semantically the same as "I'm a lazy asshole who didn't bother to look up what the Democrats ideas are."

Or at least it looks that way to me.

11. Take a look at the top 50 threads in DU
We may have a lot of ideas but we don't talk about them. We talk about the ideas we don't like. We talk about not being republicans. Our leaders talk about not being republicans but supporting ideas that those that voted for republicans last time might consider safe.

If you want the world to know the things you stand for then you gotta talk about them. You have to work to make them understand not only that you do stand for them but why they should stand for them too.

The media may have this one wrong but it's not their fault. Our leaders and even we have not spoken up for the things we do believe in. Our leaders have fallen to the sway of the polls and we have fallen to the chaos of the grumbling mob.

29. I gotta disagree with you somewhat AZ
Our ideas don't get covered. Contraversy gets covered, some of their ideas get covered cuz they are good with catch phrases and also in charge, but mostly contraversy gets covered. I blame the MSM for alot of this.

34. MSM Is a tool
We need to figure out how to use it. The right figured it out. We can figure it out.

If we stand up and define ourselves better the MSM will be forced to play along. If they don't, more and more people will see them as partisan hacks. And they will be forced to shift to stay market positioned.

The same problem is prevalent here in DU. Controvercy sticks to the top while progressive ideas sink like stones. It's going to take the same sort of effort here in DU to change the nature of the process as it is to change the MSM.

So get loud and consistant about the things we stand for. Make some noise. Be seen standing up for things. Start here in DU. Drown out the constant chorus of hate directed at all things Bush. Sure there is a lot of hate deserved there. But I hope we are known as something beyond just hating Bush.

13. All democrats need to begin to taunt those who say they have no agenda.
Democrats need to say something like "Only someone who is totally ignorant and completely uninformed would ever say such a thing. Or someone who is lying."

21. Then start talking about the things we stand for
If we make it so loud that the media can no longer ignore it then they will have to change their tune. When it is so part of our identity that people can't help but think of the things we stand for when someone says Democrat then the media will have to follow along.

23. What they mean is that we do not have THEIR ideas: We do not believe
in pre-emptive military action (especially when the evidence supporting it is faked); we do not believe in gutting social security; we do not believe in gutting public education; we do not believe in tax cuts for the wealthy; we do not believe that a woman's body is government property.. etc, etc, etc.

25. That is a bizarre thing for the pukes to say in response
to rule 21, as it was invoked in order to investigate how we were mislead into war.

How is investigating poor intelligence handling NOT an idea?

Anyway, I'd prefer no ideas to the neo-convicts one idea: screw the poor.

27. It's because our ideas are better
They don't want people even THINKING we have ideas, becuase if people actually think about their positions on issues, they agree with us and our ideas the vast majority of the time, upwards of 70% of Americans.

No so instead of saying 'They have bad ideas' which would give our ideas play and make people think "hmm but that's what I think" they say we have no ideas.

33. Put It Back On Them!
I agree, we let them slide on that one.

The response should be...

WE are the party with the PLAN that will benefit the majority of Americans for their Safety, for bringing our troops home(and that we really need to get)for Social Security and Health Care for ALL !

The Regressives have a PLAN to take us back to the times of George Washington! They have a BIG plan, that they have implemented with a BIG Tax cut for the wealthy.

Our PLAN is to help all Americans by -----!

Regressives have a PLAN that is destroying America's rich environment.

Our plan is to -----

and on and on, we do need a 1,2,3 PLAN that Americans can clearly understand.
