Cheney's 19% Approval, What it REALLY MEANS FOR CHIMPY!
Edited on Thu Nov-03-05 10:54 AM by Beetwasher
I think I've been wrong. I think this 19% is really the hard core supporters on the right, the one's who can't be swayed and will support these bums no matter what. This is their true base. I've sort of been going on the assumption that it was a number in the mid 30's, but I'm now thinking I'm wrong and it's actually closer to this 19% of people who still support Cheney. I think Chimpy can fall even further than his now dismal 35%, in fact, I'm now beginning to think it's possible that Chimpy can approach Dick's territory.

4. Not quite.
Cheney appeals to the Neanderthals and the neo-con goons. Chimpy appeals to them but is also worshipped by the whacko religious nutjobs. So 19% is the baseline for the neo-cons and ultra rightists. Throw in another 10-15% for the religiously insane and you get Chimpy's baseline. It might be slightly smaller because of some overlap between the two groups. I'd guess Chimpy can't fall further than 30% without some major meltdown.

8. Well, I Don't Think Chimpy Would Ever Get To 19%
But I do think that 19% makes up the bulk of his rock solid, never say die support. There might be a bit more to be squeezed out of the religious fundies who, for some reason support Chimpy but not Cheney, but I don't think it's much more.

5. What's funny is that I can recall the reaction of repub voters from the
first election.

They knew bush wasn't that smart, but cheney was smart, he was tough, and he was a good republican. So being an idiot was OK, as long as he was smart enough to find smart guys to surround him.

We're learning that while some were pretty smart (and you have to agree cheney is not an idiot), they were also pretty arrogant and thought they could run the world. Becoming too powerful and not covering all of your bases will get you cut down anywher.

Now cheney's numbers are in the tank and people realize what a piece of shit he really is - and it should drag dumbya's numbers down further. At least that's what I'm hoping.

7. You have to figure out what the tipping point is. How much can
a person take before they abandon him? How someone could still be for him, after all the evidence is truly amazing.I think you will be left with an uniformed group who won't ever want to admit that they are wrong. Pride.

My inlaws are staunch supporters who repeat the Rush talking points. They are still 100% behind him. They think that Plame was not covert so ergo no crime. I didn't like Clinton personal shenanagins, but I was miles from a tipping point since I thought he was a great president.

I think you will be left with an uniformed group who won't ever want to admit that they are wrong. Pride.

But it doesn't really matter anyway. We have to figure out how we will win over a McCain/Rudy ticket. If we were running against Bush again, it would be a slam dunk.
