After a little while it really started to get annoying. I watched him a few times. Got caught by those ads 'teenagers that abuse their parents' or some such insanity. Didn't watch much though, as I found him rather irritating. The guy seemed incredibly pompous and SO full of himself.

I decided I couldn't even watch him when I was bored after his 'weight loss' campaign. That really pissed me off. It was so obvious that he was just jumping on a way to make money.

If he hasn't had a prior weight problem, I don't think he had any business in the 'weight loss industry.' That was THE MOST transparent thing I've seen anyone do--just disgusting.

I hate that even people who dislike him mislabel him a "shrink." Shrinks, as I've always heard the term defined, WENT TO MEDICAL SCHOOL. They must meet a certain standard of care within their practice of MEDICINE, and can (at least theoretically) be held accountable for fucking up people's lives, neglecting their patients, etc. "Dr." Phil even calls his CLIENTS his "patients," because he's just that stupid and presumptuous.

I hate him. He's a misogynist, and asshole and a moron. He's basically scamming folks in the worst kind of way: telling them they can magically and quickly fix serious emotional and psychological problems, many of which have societal and environmental tie-ins, simply by changing behaviors. Which is...a total lie and a dangerous one. It's a claim he makes while having NO understanding of physiology, history, this society or much of anything else as far as I can tell, especially relationships. It's the "band-aid-on-a-gushing-wound" approach to "psychotherapy." Even DR. RUTH could out counsel him, he sucks so much.

nor do I watch his show. Your post, however, made me decide to "google" Dr. Phil. Apparently, according to IMDB.com, he earned his Doctorate degree in Psychology from N. Texas State U.

So, no... he's not a full fledged Medical Doctor, but the PhD does accord him the right to call himself "doctor."

Truth is that we can NOT truly separate out our biology from our behavior. Celebrity Psychologists do MORE HARM to those who are paraded before them than GOOD. IMO it should be illegal for Parents to have their children counseled by one of these shysters ON TELEVISION. It has the potential to cause irreparable damage and a child cannot provide informed consent.
