Poll question: Are Republicans sociopaths?
Many prominent Republicans seem to have deep-seated psychological problems. Would you generally diagnose them as sociopaths?

1. Tonight I told my husband that there's something wrong with them,
something that's seriously wrong. They're not psychologically well.

6. This may be inflammatory, but they have aggresion issues
Somehow, they think that by being belligerent, thay can cow the world into submission.

Uh, it doesn't work like that. Outrageous actions inspire outrageous responses.

Like, for example, the American Revolution?

7. Largely sociopaths, at least the powerful and bullying ones
Having crossed paths rather too closely with a pernicious sociopath (and having seen too many borderline ones in business), I always recommend Tim Fields' great site on the issue:

http://bullyonline.org/

It takes a person of character to even call himself/herself a Democrat these days. The good part of that is it's sent all the big time bullies to the Republicans, which is why they've taken over.

At least we're fighting back now, even if Limbaugh is talking about the nuclear option.

8. Maybe we should specify Neocons
And those who embrace them.

There are some republicans out there who are very unhappy about what is happening. They just don't get much press coverage.

Neocons are sociopaths.

MOST republicans are just very very ignorant. Maybe deluded and in denial as well....but they do care...just wrongly.

10. Yeah, I did add the word "prominent" to try to steer the poll a bit
I know of a few rank-and-file Repukes who are very dismayed at the direction of their leaders. Problem for me is that even the disillusioned ones I know also have deep seated issues.

I'll have to check their chart record and then call a meeting with their treatment team. Lobotomies will begin should we deem them necessary.

Edited to add: Water-boardings shall be handed down on a case by case basis. Context specific conditions will be accounted for. Adopted children of Pro-Life wingnut families will be fitted for straight jackets and told constantly that their penis does not make them a bad boy. Others will be quarantined with the other incurables and put under the care of our new doctor Abu Graib. he comes with a whole set of classical psychiatric equipment. Shit you only find that stuff in medical museums. Yeah...we're pretty excited. Okay...back to work. Let's see here...

11. well, most of them...
Well, most of the ones that i have talked/debated/got yelled at by, yes...most of them ...in short, read one sentence of a book, and then think they are a master/know what the book is about, understand, sorta? I don't know, most seem to be afraid to admit mistakes, and what not. I'm the first one to raise my hand when i know i made a mistake,....

19. Though sociopaths have different diagnoses. They just have to fit
Edited on Thu Nov-03-05 01:36 AM by applegrove
the critieria of being aggressive liars with shallow emotions and a whole host of other things. I forget it all.

But the range of behaviour from one sociopath to another is huge. Some of them are puppeters, some just annoying trouble-makers. Hitler is one end of the scale.

So to say that the people at the top must be sociopathic - yes - but that in and of itself is vague.

Their communal actions are very, very sociopathic. Their patterns of behaviour. How they whip followers into a frenzy and turn them into "unqualified cops on the job" like the freepers who put Nick Berg on a list because his father went to a peace dmeonstration - so Nick was held by the FBI. How they grow down the people around them into following baser instincts and not thinking for themselves or acting for themselves and handing responsibility for their mean & ill-informed actions to some other. The way they attack the strengths relentlessly and endlessly of the people who threaten them (McCain, Clinton, Kerry, & a host of others) simply for having integrity or being good at their jobs - is typical sociopathic behaviour. And on and on.

Really sad to see. But at least the great people of the U.S, the adults, are getting sick of it. And begining to take a stand.
