Damn straight president Carter. I love you! He's on CNN Larry King Live NOW! Y'all should tune in and catch the rebroadcast at midnight (I think).

He is the best former president ever. He is more effective as an ex-president although I wished he'd had two terms. :patriot:

15. Yet the right will continue to smear him. A fundy couple I know
were talking in front of me, once, saying they couldn't think of a single good Democrat. One of them brought up Jimmy Carter and the other one repeated some RW talking point. I watched as right then and there they decided Jimmy Carter was a bad guy.

Sigh.

Fundies fall for RW rhetoric so easily. :( It's very sad.

BTW, Rev...how the hell are you?

36. Funny, but they do seem to find fault with Jesus.
I remember a lot of "feed the poor" and "give comfort to the afflicted" and "turn the other cheek" stuff, but fundies want to line the pockets of the rich, afflict the afflicted and start wars of aggression.

:wtf:

40. The "mediocre" tag was planted by the "liberal" press.
Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 11:51 PM by Zen Democrat
Carter didn't fit in, or try to, with the power elite in Washington. That made him "mediocre" to them. Although most would say he was the smartest man to ever be president.

And what did this smart president do? He made his presidency about human rights around the world. He was a peacemaker. He was honest. He appointed Paul Volcker to the Fed, who jacked up interest rates to stop the inflation spiral. He was the recipient president of an Arab oil embargo and intendant gas shortage (obviously the Saudis decided to hurt Carter). Fifty-two hostages were taken during the Islamic Revolution in Iran -- and they all came home. Russia invaded Afghanistan in 1980 and he led an international boycott of the Moscow Olympics.

He had picnics for federal workers on the White House lawn, wore sweaters, carried his own bags, sold off the presidential yacht, and was completely accessible -- even walking in his own inaugural parade.

I think he was an outstanding president that I'm continually proud of.

He splashed at it to divert it away. He was startled. The bunny swam away.

39. He's remarkable especially since he came from "Jim Crow" South
He's a generation older than I am, so I know how amazing it is that he is so liberal and progressive coming from the environment he had as a child and youth. I lived near his home in Plains, and it is old plantation land and "separate but equal" was as good as it would get. He had to search deep to find the strength of conviction that he has demonstrated for so long. I'm sure his church and faith are a big part of that...one can grow up in segregated churches filled with bigots and still "get" the beautides. Since we have no elected President, Carter is a wonderful ambassador of peace for the US.

Heard him last night on "Fresh Air", explaining how American Christianity has been hijacked. Jesus wouldn't even recognize these fake "Christians" like Pat Robertson, Ricky Santorum (who is too f#cking stupid to realize that most US "Christians" don't include Catholics as Christians), James Dobson, etc. Well, yeah, actually he would recognize them, and he'd throw them out of the Temple.
