One year later
I understand there has already been a post that was similar to this yesterday however I decided to start my own topic rather than just revive that one. If the moderators of this board want to combine my post with the aforementioned one that's fine with me.

One year ago today, I was parked in front of the computer just as I am now. However, instead of typing posts at DU I was viewing the CNN website intently for the latest results in the election. The TV was on too and my father switched back between the three major news networks constantly. Like all of you, the tension was killing me.

It was one of the longest nights in years. I sat at my monitor, praying that this horrible era in America history would finally be coming to a close. Even after the Chimp won Florida, I still held out hope that Kerry would be able to turn the tables on him. The whole thing was really draining emotionally and eventually I had to go to bed though I probably didn't fall asleep until hours later.

I woke up the next day to find out my worst fears had come true. Bush had won and Kerry was conceding the election. We were going to be stuck with this horrible human being as president for another four years. I was so depressed I had to stay home for the day.

The last two months of 2004 seemed to pass at a snail's pace and I was ready to put the year behind me and make the best of the coming year. I'm glad I did. 2005 had been a definite improvement over the previous year. While Bush is still president he is now disliked by a majority of Americans and his place in history certainly doesn't seem to be a postive one. The future of many members of his administration, including his own VP, remains uncertain. Not only that but there is a chance the Democrats can make a comeback next year including ridding California of the sorry excuse for a governor they have now. The Republican party have gone from being at the height of their power to their political future now being in danger. And I couldn't be happier.

Aside from my optimism that things would get better, the only other thing I had was websites like the DU which consoled me that I wasn't alone in my feelings (though I registered in June of this year I had been viewing this forum for at least a year before that). Even though all of you probably don't know who I am I want to thank you all for being there for me even though you weren't aware of my existence. Thanks.

1. You are not alone!
You have just -- very eloquently, I might add -- given words to the thoughts that many of us had at the time.

Patience, my friend -- better times are ahead.
