Nattering Nabobs of Negativism?
A leftover phrase from the Watergate era, created by either William Safire or Patrick Buchanan, used to describe those liberals that were against the Nixon agenda. Those folks that refused to get in line and always were trying to kill the messenger. They were to blame.Anybody remember that? See any parallels with some of the posts here on DU?

1. Spiro Agnew said it.
He was also the first to bestow the Washington press with the moniker of "liberal media."

11. Probably.
Google says Buchanan wrote it. I just remember seeing the clips of Agnew saying it, though. (I was too young during Watergate to have seen it live).

20. I associate it with Agnew totally. Some of us were thinking of starting
the NNofN foundation.

2. I proudly proclaim my negativism !!!
When things look negative, it's time to whine, cry, complain, and protest! And Fitz's indictment looks negative as hell for us. I do think impeachment of Bush is still possible in 2007, but Fitz doesn't help us very much in that regard.

4. Since you are so negative, willing to live the Declration of
Independence, or just whine?

12. Whining is the first step toward constructive protest
George Washington was a whiner and a complainer, as was Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King.

13. How does whining about Fitz help neoCons ?
Republicans are breathing a sigh of relief because of Friday's press conference. I'd say acting hopeful makes people lazy and assume Fitz will take care of it. But Fitz wants to get back to Chicago and be done with this thing, which is mostly over, as he said.

8. They might as well put Ann Coulter on. At least she's so extreme as
to be laughable. I'd hate for anyone to take Safire's comments seriously. He was damned awful today.

pimping away for the administration. :puke: He's still working from the old Repuke framing of "If we say it wasn't bad, then it wasn't." I couldn't believe that no one on the show noted

a) Bush's excruciatingly bad poll numbers are 30-40 points below where Clinton's were during the height of his impeachment; and

b) Fitzgerald's investigation has not been closed.

"Meet The Press"... who aren't doing their jobs (again). :eyes:

10. Another meta-thread?
:eyes:

What happened to direct discussion? Why are so many opening new threads to hurl grenades cross-forum at other threads?

Yes, there's a huge contingent of Spiro-Agnew-clones on DU these days.

Never forget the Poppy Bush used the exact same rhetoric, repeatedly inferring that anyone who disagreed with him "weren't REAL Americans." We have the same thing on DU, now. People inferring that others who disagree "aren't real liberals/Democrats/DUers."

Edited on Sun Oct-30-05 01:39 PM by valerief
Nabob is Indian, person of power/wealth via commerce/service. Negativism is skepticism. But nattering? Anyone?
