I have a few questions about when things might start happening.
When is the new Grand Jury going to start?

How long are people expecting the second grand jury to go before we see some more indictments?

When is Libby going to go on trial?

Thanks!

1. Probably when Fitz
ends investigating so he can lay everything out for them.

2. I heard this a.m. Libby would be entering a plea next week.
I don't know any other time frames, but Fitz said the investigation is over, so they have all the facts they could get at their disposal now. This could happen quickly - or not.

7. I thought he said the opposite: that the case was...
...NOT over. Are you sure?

9. He said he was still investigating, and that
he will not conclude the investigation until he look people in the eye and say he has finished the job completely....this is not over. It will be over when Fitz says it's over.

10. When he says it's over, or when the fat lady (Rove?) sings.

13. the GJ was over, his investigation of Libby's charges are almost done
He chose his words very carefully.

He refused to name names. He refused to state his job was finished. To the contrary, he talked about how they all have full time jobs, on top of this investigation. and that their work continues.

I recall when he first indicted the first few tadpoles in the Illinois corruption cases. Those grew legs and sticky fingers, and over a year, there were 50 or so others brought in one by one.

20. From Fitz's transcript:
OK, the majority of the investigation is over, per Fitz.
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/28/politics/28text-fitz.html?pagewanted=all

Mr. Fitzgerald, this began as a leak investigation but no one is charged with any leaking. Is your investigation finished? Is this another leak investigation that doesn't lead to a charge of leaking?

FITZGERALD: Let me answer the two questions you asked in one.

OK, is the investigation finished? It's not over, but I'll tell you this: Very rarely do you bring a charge in a case that's going to be tried and would you ever end a grand jury investigation.

I can tell you, the substantial bulk of the work in this investigation is concluded.

This grand jury's term has expired by statute; it could not be extended. But it's in ordinary course to keep a grand jury open to consider other matters, and that's what we will be doing.

22. Good, thanks. But can anyone explain the last sentence?
Seems to say 1. the grand jury's expired; 2. the grand jury's open to consider other matters.

23. The GJ investigating the leak has expired; they did their 18 mths
and a 6 month extension. They are done.
But another GJ can step in should they need it for add'l charges or should new info be introduced.

27. I read as 1) No New Charges for *LIBBY* 2)most of INVESTIGTORY work done
1 Does not mean that there won't be charges for others
2 Does not mean there is other Non-Investigatory (is that a word?) work to be done -- that is pretty much done asking questions, but not done finding answers

impaneled...and he can get a new one if he needs to.

8. WRONG!
He said that he can use any grand jury and he evaded coming out and saying that they are going to empanel a new one. Get honest with YOURSELF.

http://www.wtkr.com/global/story.asp?s=4042769&ClientType=Printable Fitzgerald's spokesman, Randall Samborn, said the investigation will continue but with a new grand jury. The term of the current grand jury cannot be extended beyond today.

14. He doesn't need a new grand jury
he can go to another grand jury that is currently working in DC. He just can't go back to the one he's had for the last two years because their term expired yesterday and he did not ask for another extension.

21. I don't think so; a GJ will be available for this case:

4. As far as Libby goes....
he will probably be arraigned within the next 30 days. I would think that his trial will start no later than 6 months from that, and that guess factors in stalling with pretrial motions and such from the defense. If it goes to trial, and that is a big IF, look for motions by the defense and government for a closed process.

The process to empanel a new grand jury will begin this coming week.

12. The process for a new grand jury will begin this coming week?
Can I call you on that, or is it just wishful thinking? If I come on this board (or the regular GD) next week and ask you where the new grand jury is, will you answer me?

16. Well on Thursday night you were spreading this gloom and doom:
I don't like the sound of this.
The Friday night "news dump" is usually bad news for us. Legally, he doesn't have to do anything at all, and that worries me.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=102&topic_id=1881068#1881093

And now we have an indictment of 5 counts for Mr. Scooter.

17. But we were expecting and indictment for Rove, too.
That's all we talked about for weeks. There was even a fotoshop picture going around with Rove being removed from the White House in handcuffs. I wasn't the only one worried about the Friday night news dump, and we had talked ab out the possibility that Fitzgerald didn't legally HAVE to do anything. Why am I the bad guy suddenly for posting the truth? I'm sure that there are many other DUers out there who feel the same way I do, but don't want to post because they know they'll get flamed about voicing their opinions. Sometimes making yourself heard is tough.

25. Wouldn't we know about "sealed indictments"?
Not the nature of the charges , but the fact that they exist?

Would we know about them? I don't know. But wouldn't it be great if there were one?
